If you enjoy classical music but do not have the chance to get to live performances you can catch a few by joining Thurso Live Music Association. The annual membership for the coming year is �40 and for that you get eight concerts making bargain price of only �5 per concert.

The Caithness Cultural Trust is forging ahead with it plans to develop an Arts Centre in the hear of Pulteneytown. As part of their quest to raise the profile of the group formed in Devcember 2003 they have now launched a web site with information about the group and their ambitious plans for one of the buildings in Telford Street.
Glass artists from seven countries yesterday concluded the first of a summer programme of master classes at North Lands Creative Glass in the village of Lybster led by Klaus Moje, one of the key figures in contemporary studio glass. The class - "Finding New Horizons" - explored kilnforming with techniques such as fusing, bending and mold-making and also extensive use of cold-working methods.
Words & Music at the Mill Theatre from Scotia Review for Caithness Arts Week Anyone who's spent this summer so far in the north must - like myself - be wondering what we've done to deserve such sunless July days. At times like these it's not hard to understand why our ancestors raised so many hefty stone geometries - if I thought it would appease the gods of weather, I too would gladly salute them, and beg for clemency.
Boss Hogg one of the most popular bands in the north won the local heat of the Pulse Heat Bands competition on Saturday at Viewfirth in Thurso. Unfortunately due to other commitments they cannot head for the final at Mad Hatters in Inverness on Saturday.
The North Coast Jazz Band are doing a great job trying to establish a monthly gig in Thurso with potential for a jam, but they need more support. They play at the Redwood, last Saturday in the month for fun, not cash and they will encourage any kind of participation.
For folk who missed the Wick Pipe Band Festival recently a video is now available of all of the parades. M & M Video have produced a compilation of all of the events from the week where several pipe bands took part individually and as a massed band at the Market Square, Wick and at the riverside.
Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival has announced 'Pulse' - a talent trawl for emerging bands and soloists throughout the Highlands, in association with Mad Hatters at Hootannany's and HUBL, the web site for Highland musicians. A series of selection events will be around the Highlands - Inverness, Dingwall, Nairn, Alness, Thurso, Skye and Oban, culminating in a final selection in Mad Hatter's, Inverness in July.

Can I first of all make my sincere apologies to Dod Pain and anyone else I forgot to mention in my last newsletter who performed at the Wildcat on the Prowl evening. I did rectify it in a later edition, of course but most of you won't have received the update.
LS Lowry painted scenes of Wick in the 1930's, now the Highland Council would like local artists to do the same in 2005, using the famous artist's paintings as inspiration. The work can be in any medium, but must include both people and places, using the setting of Lower Puleneytown, Wick.
The last Wildcat night attracted a relatively small but very appreciative audience to the Pentland Hotel on a Friday evening to hear a bunch of local artists performing. Alison Birnie and Fraser Bain gave us some of the best singing and accompaniment I've heard for many a year.

Scottish Chamber Orchestra visits Strathpeffer, Thurso and Culloden Following successful concerts in Findhorn, Fortrose and Kingussie in early June, the second leg of the SCO Highlands Tour 2005 takes place in July with three more concerts around the Highlands. Under the baton of Roland B�er, the Orchestra performs in Strathpeffer (Pavilion, Thursday 7th July, 8pm), Thurso (High School, Friday 8th July, 8pm) and Culloden (Academy Theatre, Saturday 9th July, 8pm).

Scotland's first Competition League for Amateur Solo Pipers Will Launch At Piping Live. The first ever World Amateur Solo Piping Championships are to be held this year as part of the Piping Live festival in Glasgow this August, it was announced today.

OEDIPUS THE CHIEF, a new play by George Gunn will be performed by Grey Coast Theatre Company at LYTH ARTS CENTRE, Caithness at 8.00 pm on Saturday 18th June. A dynamic presentation directed by Eric Tessier-Lavigne in a moved reading with JULIA DALKIN, ADAM ROBERTSON, BRIAN SMITH, FINLAY MACLEAN and HELEN MACKAY with a community chorus.
