Caithness Gaelic Choir Win St Aubyn's Challenge Trophy
The ladies section of the Caithness Gaelic Choir travelled south on Saturday 8 March 2003 to participate in the Inverness Music Festival.   Under conductor Norma Sinclair and with accompanist Barbara Nicol, they returned home the proud winners of the St.

Wick Pipe Band - A Brief History by the Band Convener Willie Lyall
(Written in 1994 to mark the Band's 75th Anniversary) Since the band was first formed in 1919, we seem to have been a band of several names, several uniforms, and many ups and downs.  We have had internal battles, external battles, special meetings, extraordinary meetings, promises and threats, not to mention dramas, which led to fall out and decline.

On Hogmanay evening the Opera House at Ackergill Tower was the setting for a short ceremony at which the Directors of Ackergill Ltd presented a new baldric, or Drum Major's sash, to Wick RBLS Pipe Band in recognition of the friendly ties which exist between the Company and the Band.   Before making the presentation Mrs Arlette Banister invited the Drum Major, Alistair Lamont, to explain to the assembled house guests the origins and purpose of the baldric.

Dances In The Wilds - A New CD From Karen Steven
Karen Steven a Caithness violinist has brought out her next CD with more local connections.   Karen says "Two years ago I was asked to represent Caithness and was commissioned by the Highland Festival to compose some music to be performed at their millennium concert in Eden Court Theatre, Inverness.

This video is one of 19 own label videos which form part of the extensive range of Scottish traditional music recordings on the Ross Records label owned by Gibson and Ann Ross.   There is a strong Caithness connection as Gibson was born and brought up in Wick, and attended both Wick North and Wick High schools before going to Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh to study pharmacy.

Yesterday's traditional music workshops day moved on to an evening concert in Mackays hotel, Wick that turned out to be one of the best musical evenings in Caithness.   With a most amazing line up of some of Scotland's most talented performers in Scottish Traditional music ranging from Scottish dance styles to traditional music with a cutting edge.

The Caithness Handbell Ringers were joined in St John's church, Wick by Erica Sinclair on the clarsach, Craig Campbell on the organ and Bruce Gordon on the bassoon for an evening of music that included music by John Denver, Bach and Mozart.   The concert also played in St Peters, Thurso on 30 August..
