Consultation on the shares of National Lottery money for the arts and film, sport, and heritage is now being undertaken. Lots of different bodies are trying to encourage people to put their views forward from film groups, sports groups - in fact wide range from manny backgrounds who want to see a different distribution of the funds.

If you have an interest in the arts in Caithness you might like to go along to hear about he Arts Strategy to be launched at the Orrange Room, Park Hotel Thurso at 4.00pm on Thursday 2 February. Professor Ian Brown was commissioned by Caithness Arts to put together ideas and a plan with recommendations to carrry it forward.

Families in Ross and Cromarty, Caithness, and Inverness will this February have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of storytelling events organised by Highland Council's Community Learning and Leisure Service. Through funding from the Live Literature Scotland Scheme, Highland Libraries have organised five family storytelling sessions "Stories For All Ages" led by key Scottish poets, authors and storytellers.

THE PRINCESS ROYAL TRUST HIGHLAND CARERS' PROJECT TOURS EXHIBITION OF PHOTOGRAPHS OF CARERS BY FIN MACRAE The Princess Royal Trust Highland Carers' Project has put together an exhibition of portraits of carers with Fin Macrae, the highly regarded Highland photographer who has exhibited at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and The Victoria and Albert in London. The exhibition, which opened at Strathpeffer Community Centre in December, is now on tour around Highland region.

A reminder to any groups thinking about putting in an application to the Community Programme funding stream of Highland Year of Culture 2007 that the deadline for applications is 6 February 2007 The Communnity Programme is to enable community groups and organisations to decide how Highland Culture should be celebrated in each area of Highland in 2007. Registered charities and not-for-profit organisations can apply for revenue funding.

Every school pupil in Highland will be given the chance to participate in a cultural activity during 2007 as part of a cultural pledge being made by The Highland Council in celebrating Highland 2007 ~ the year Scotland celebrates Highland culture. Teachers and Community Learning and Leisure staff will be working with Pupil Councils to identify a range of topics and potential activities which might form part of the Pledge to the 31,000 Highland pupils.
If you are a player of traditional music and want a chance to improve then here is yet another chance in Caithness. but the day long class is open to anyone and increasingly people are coming from further afield for the chance to have a day with the professionals.

Easy Jazzy Sundays To Relax At the Park Hotel In Thurso There seems to be wee rush to liven up Thurso's eateries and here is another new idea. Ian Sinclair, After hours and Peter Dyson, the North coast Jazz Bandd are setting out to change your Sunday lunch and add a bit of relaxing jazz music to the Sunday roast.

Scotland's cultural landscape will be transformed by radical plans for the future, MSPs were told in the Parliament today. Culture Minister Patricia Ferguson said plans to invest an extra 20 million pounds per year from April 2007 will support plans to nurture the best creative and cultural talent while cutting back on unnecessary bureaucracy.
Thursday 2nd February 4pm Orange Room, Park Hotel Thurso. Caithness Arts, the group moving the arts forward in Caithness will launch the Arts Strategy for Caithness.

CLORE DUFFIELD FOUNDATION �1 Million Over Five Years Available Grants of up to �10,000 are available to fund education programmes that cover every aspect of the performing arts including opera, dance, music, musical theatre, the spoken word and theatre. The funding which is being made available through the Clore Duffield Foundation's Small Grants programme is open to both professional and amateur arts organisations, including schools.
After spending several years living and working in Cornwall Graham and his family moved to Scarfskerry Caithness to start their own smalholding. They keep a variety of animals on the croft including a small group of water buffalo that seeem to be right at home in the north - maye something to do with our wet climate.

North Highland College HNC Acting & Performance students present a piece of devised theatre called 'Its these years of being��' the material was inspired by the work of American Poet Richard Brautigan(1935-1984). Brautigan who lived in San Francisco became an integral part of the mid- 60's scene and was part of the beat movement.
