Paperworks kicks off a new season of craft workshops in the Castlehill Centre, Castletown, Caithness. Set in an inspirational location next to Castlehill harbour and Dunnet beach, the recently refurbished, all purpose venue, of Castletown Heritage Society, has proved to be a winning formula, as local artist, Joanne B Kaar, is making the most of the new facilities for her 2008 craft skills workshops 'Paper Scissors Stone'.
Paper Scissors Stone Paper arts workshops with Joanne B Kaar Silk Paper Making - 20th April 2008 Pulp Paper Making - 27th April 2008 Arty Book Binding - 4th May 2008 Chinese Seal Stone - 11th May 2008 All workshops will be in the recently refurbished Castlehill Heritage Centre next to Castletown Harbour & Dunnet Beach, Castletown, Caithness. All will run from 10am - 4pm.
Earlier this year, the 8 Highland based cultural co-ordinators received funding from the Scottish Arts Council to provide arts projects for children on a theme of 'Heritage'. The Highland Print Studio in Inverness has been working in partnership with the co-ordinators to provide a range of activities for each area that makes use of the facilities they offer which ranged from traditional printmaking to digital imaging techniques.
Joanne B Kaar has been busy recycling linen waste from the Scalpay weaving shed in the Western Isles into handmade papers. This is a special commission by the IAPMA (International Association of Papermakers and Artists) for 400 sheets each measuring 16cm X 65cm.
Joanne Kaar papermaker from Caithness, stayed for a week's residency in Cromarty to work with children and young people on her "Message in a Bottle" project. Working in conjunction with Artsplay Highland, Joanne visited Cromarty Primary, the Youth Club and Cromarty Action for Young People, creating images with face and hand-painting, beach photos and found objects for stunning effects which will all be part of a month-long exhibition at The Stables, Cromarty for July.

Local Paper Maker Joanne B Kaar has been invited by Prof Janet Ruby, Chair of the Department of Art Professor of Art and Computer Design Shippensburg University Pennsylvania to send work for: "Unfolding Thought: Contemporary Book Art," an invitational exhibition on the art of the book for April 2007. www.shapeart.org Joanne will have 5 books in the exhibition..
Joanne B Kaar a caithness based paper maker has sent the following request - "I have been appointed as the artist-in-residence for Durness/Cape Wrath area. It's a 3 month residency, and I will arrive in Durness on Friday 21st July.
On Friday the 21st July Joanne Kaar will be starting an artist-residency in Durness. During her 3 month stay, she willl be scribbling and sketching in her handmade paper books.

In partnership with Cromarty Arts Trust, the Highland Council is offering a unique experience for people in Cromarty to try their hand at silkpaper-making and fibre art techniques. The three day workshop project will be led by internationally renowned artist and author, Joanne Kaar from Caithness.
