North Highland Connections is presenting two major events to bring September to an end; you will not want to miss either of them!

On Sunday, 28th September, at 7:30pm, another of our 'Young Artistes' series
will feature the rising star cellist, Rowena Calvert, accompanied by Alison
Rhind.

Their programme includes :
Ludwig Van Beethoven(1770-1827): Sonata No. 3 in A major, Op. 69
Claude Debussy (1862-1918): Sonata
Manuel De Falla (1876-1946): Suite Populaire Espagnole
César Franck (1822-1890) : Sonata

Rowena was born and brought up in Rogart, and she says "It is such a pleasure to be able to play 'at home'; I am really grateful to North Highland Connections for arranging this concert." The event will be in the Drawing Room of Dunrobin Castle, by kind permission of Lord Strathnaver.

Admission is by ticket: £7 (£5 concessions). A glass of wine will be offered during the interval. Since seating is limited we advise that you reserve your tickets in advance, calling NHC on 01955-606695, or by e-mailing Mauricio Franco : MF[AT]northhighlandconnections.org

Two days after the concert NHC will present its first drama production, in the hall of Wick High School, This is a new play on a theme all too familiar in present-day society: knife crime. Here is an extract from the official press release:

V.AMP Productions brings Fleeto, Paddy Cunneen's hard-hitting drama about modern day knife crime, to North East of Scotland venues, including HIGH SCHOOL, Wick on Tues 30 Sept 2008

These performances take place as part of a debut six week tour - Tuesday 9 September until Saturday 18 October 2008 - to eighteen Scottish venues, before heading to London for two performances at The Nave, Islington.

Cunneen's play uses the rhythm of Shakespearean verse and applies it to a story about a modern day Glasgow street stabbing, in which a youngster is indiscriminately killed by a gang while trying to defend his friend from their vengeful rage.

Inspired by The Iliad, Fleeto reinvents the Greek tragic form in this timely exploration of issues surrounding so called 'knife culture'. This brief, yet compelling, fifty five minute tragedy is by turns, thought-provoking and deeply moving.

Paddy Cunneen, Writer and Director, Fleeto said: 'Greek theatre was concerned with debating the ethical questions of its time. Knife crime is an ethical question of our time. It is my hope that by using the theatrical model of the ancients, Fleeto audiences will have the opportunity to experience a story of human tragedy viewed from different perspectives and be prompted to examine some of the questions implicit in the issues raised.'

The play has received widespread press coverage. A group of local young people will take part in a workshop before the performance, and six of them will be invited to take part in the evening performance. This will be the only performance in the north, so do not miss it!
Reservation is advised :
