North Highland Connections more Young Artistes

3rd June 2013

Photograph of North Highland Connections more Young Artistes

Following the brilliant performance by world-class clarinettist, Michael Collins, in Thurso on 1st June, North Highland Connections is following it with another concert in its Young Artistes series, featuring up and coming young professionals.

The concert, on 15th June, will be in the Drawing Room at Dunrobin Castle.

Appropriately, the performers are The Sutherland Duo, with Harriet Mackenzie (violin), and Christina Lawrie (piano).

With their strong ancestral links to Sutherland, the Duo, winners of the Winners of Scotland Award 2010 - 2012, are an eclectic and energetic duo. Their repertoire spans more than 300 years of western classical music, ranging from the elegance of the French Baroque, the searing emotional intensity of Brahms, and the wild gypsy rhythms of Sarasate, to the exciting music of our times.

Christina and Harriet are both Park Lane Group Young Artists and have both performed at prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, St Martin in the Fields and Cadogan Hall, and have given live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. They were also invited to perform in the historic Bath Pump Room for its 300th Anniversary celebration concert.

Thanks to the EMS Chamber Music Residency, the Sutherland Duo have toured all over Scotland. At Dunrobin they will play music by Grieg and Prokofiev.

The concert begins at 7:30pm, with tickets priced at 15 (12 concessions). Wine and soft drinks will be offered. Further details and ticket reservations: MF[AT]northhighlandconnections.org Phone: 0752 107 7053

This extraordinary piece, which hasn't been performed in Scotland for almost ten years, is regarded as one of the composer's seminal works.  It's an extravagant, disturbing and occasionally very funny depiction of the madness of King George III.
