Highland Youth Big Band perform as guests in the Tommy Smith Youth Jazz Orchestra 10th anniversary tour.   Established in 2002 by Scotland’s leading saxophonist, Tommy Smith, the TSYJO offers big band experience to young jazz players who live or study in Scotland and is an inspirational stepping-stone to playing in the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra - indeed two of the TSYJO have since played with the SNJO on their 5* Duke Ellington concerts.

Success As Highland Music Groups Make It To National Finals
At the recent Inverness heat of the Scottish Concert Bands Festival, two of The Highland Council’s Area Music Groups scored great success and have been invited to compete in the finals of this national Festival in March 2013.   The 40 strong Lochaber High School Senior Wind Band is a popular and well-loved local ensemble.

Scottish Music Centre Launches Composition Marathon
In a unique project, the Scottish Music Centre is inviting applications from composers to write a new work in under 24 hours, which will then be performed in Glasgow in March 2013.   Applications are welcome from composers of varying background and experience, and sending previous scores and audio examples to support your application is encouraged.

ISIS Arts & NGI Research Residency Opportunity
Visual and Media artists, UK and beyond, are invited to apply for a three-week research residency, a joint collaboration between ISIS Arts and NGI (Newcastle Gateshead Initiative), Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK), to take place between February and end of April 2013.   The residencies are open to regional, national and international artists working in the field of visual and media art with a particular interest (but not limited to) the use of technologies and digital media in the creation of artworks.
