Earlier this year, Caithness artists Joanne B Kaar and Liz O’Donnell started a fundraiser for Brough Bay Association and Castletown Heritage Society, inviting the public to get arty and made postcard size artwork inspired by the sea. With the deadline for handing in artwork in a few weeks time (20th June 2014), things are starting to hot up around the world with artists adding the finishing touches to their creations.

Joanne B Kaar - "The Portable Museum Of Curiosity" This "Portable Museum of Curiosity" is the result of a collaboration with Joanne B Kaar, artist, and Joanne Howdle, museum curator for Caithness Horizons, as part of Museums Galleries Scotland / Creative Scotland, Iconic Artists in Iconic Places residency 2012. "The Portable Museum of Curiosity" is available for schools, colleges, community groups, museums, galleries and other heritage organisations to borrow.
North Lands Creative Glass in Lybster, Caithness is offering a six week residency for four talented artists working in hot glass taking place from 1 April to 10 May 2013. This opportunity is for artists who have an interest in exploring new forms of making, or ways of working, through collaboration.
Exciting things are afoot at four Scottish museums as they embark upon projects with acclaimed Scottish artists who will draw inspiration from - and cast a new perspective on - their collections and buildings. These new creative collaborations are the first to be awarded through Iconic Artists in Iconic Places - a collaborative project by Museums Galleries Scotland and Creative Scotland to celebrate Scotland's icons past and present by enabling artists to be inspired by museum collections, historic sites, and Scotland's intangible cultural heritage, also known as living culture.

Description Master Class Programme: 'Sources of Inspiration' Session 1: 5 - 13 July: 'Duo in Still Life', Bullseye Master Class with Deborah Horrell and Mel George. This class will use various mould making techniques, glass bodies (powders, frits, billets etc) and packing techniques to allow for both hollow ans solid cast vessels.

Paperworks kicks off a new season of craft workshops in the Castlehill Centre, Castletown, Caithness. Set in an inspirational location next to Castlehill harbour and Dunnet beach, the recently refurbished, all purpose venue, of Castletown Heritage Society, has proved to be a winning formula, as local artist, Joanne B Kaar, is making the most of the new facilities for her 2008 craft skills workshops 'Paper Scissors Stone'.

Earlier this year, the 8 Highland based cultural co-ordinators received funding from the Scottish Arts Council to provide arts projects for children on a theme of 'Heritage'. The Highland Print Studio in Inverness has been working in partnership with the co-ordinators to provide a range of activities for each area that makes use of the facilities they offer which ranged from traditional printmaking to digital imaging techniques.
Joanne B Kaar has been busy recycling linen waste from the Scalpay weaving shed in the Western Isles into handmade papers. This is a special commission by the IAPMA (International Association of Papermakers and Artists) for 400 sheets each measuring 16cm X 65cm.
Joanne Kaar papermaker from Caithness, stayed for a week's residency in Cromarty to work with children and young people on her "Message in a Bottle" project. Working in conjunction with Artsplay Highland, Joanne visited Cromarty Primary, the Youth Club and Cromarty Action for Young People, creating images with face and hand-painting, beach photos and found objects for stunning effects which will all be part of a month-long exhibition at The Stables, Cromarty for July.
Evening Classes - Tutor: Patricia Niemann *The new evening classes, 'Glass Fusing and Design', will give you an overview of different kilnforming techniques. You will learn how to cut glass and assemble pieces to be fired in a kiln.
