CLYPE At Lyth Arts Centre - 13th May 2016
In 2014, Simon Gall (Salsa Celtica) and Jonny Hardie (Old Blind Dogs) created Clype. A new project fusing sounds and styles from around the globe, borrowing from Scottish folk traditions very much rooted in the north-east of Scotland as well as from the rhythms of Latin America and harmonic ideas of jazz.

Caithness Big Band - we are always delighted to welcome back this happy gang who keep jazz alive in the north by playing the well-loved swing repertoire to a very high standard to which they add a few of their own surprises. We feel proud that Caithness has a big band of its own - there is nothing quite like that rich sound to get your feet tapping.

Eleanor Cameron, Cecilia Baesso and Katy Bell are three classically-trained string players who are to spend a weeks residency at Lyth. We all have the opportunity to hear what they manage to achieve during their visit at a performance on the final Sunday afternoon - guaranteed great musical skill but in a new guise? After a break for tea there will be an optional Q and A session during which you will have the opportunity to share your impressions of this new work.
LOST TREASURE - GLASGOW SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2016 - At Thurso Cinema
In 1956, Glasgow-based socialist film-making collective the Dawn Cine Group embarked on an ambitious project to tell the story of the Scottish Highlands and its people. Lost Treasure was never completed.
NETTING - A PLAY BY MORNA YOUNG
Netting is a story of fishing widows trying to live their lives after a tragedy. A story about real women - strong but flawed - the play explores how grief changes their relationships.
THE BUSQUITOS - FAMILY SHOW
The Busquitos are four highly entertaining and very funny Dutch musicians who are making a lightening trip to Caithness with just enough time to visit three primary schools as well as performing an evening family show at Lyth. They play and sing a catchy mix of brilliantly performed music and provide light-hearted entertainment to put a smile on every face! They invite everyone to sing along to their catchy, jazzy tunes or dreamy lullabies.
Mairearad and Anna - Best Day - At Lyth Arts
After the stunning success of their November tour, two of Scotlands most revered multi-instrumentalists, Mairearad Green and Anna Massie follow up their critically acclaimed, third album, Best Day with another tour!! This time, a 9-date UK Tour, in APRIL - taking in venues from London to Plockton and beyond!!! Website - mairearadandanna.com Best Day was recorded at Gran's House Studio in Lamington in the peaceful and picturesque Scottish Borders. Remaining true to their live sound, the album is performed entirely by Mairearad and Anna themselves.

North Lands Creative Glass Appoints New Artistic Director
The Board of North Lands Creative Glass is delighted to announce the appointment of Jeffrey Sarmiento as Artistic Director from 1 October 2016. He will succeed Emma Woffenden on the completion of her inspiring three-year term of office, culminating in North Lands 20, the anniversary celebration of its first master class and conference in 1996.

The Scottish Ensemble musicians are: Violin Cheryl Crockett Violin Bas Treub Viola Catherine Marwood Cello Alison Lawrance This is part of Scottish Ensemble's not just normal concerts when they plan a cluster of events in a specific location and move from the concert hall into the community.
