There's good news for one of the world's most prestigious centres for the study and development of glass as an artform, North Lands Creative. In the latest round of Creative Scotland funding, the organisation has secured an 18% increase over the next three years.

Over this period, we will be offering new opportunities for professional development and expanding our experimental partnerships encouraging cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Collaboration and partnership working within and outwith Caithness will be central to everything we do. We will build on established relationships (local, regional, national and international) to help grow networks and to inspire and support new creative work, skills in glass making and understanding of glass as an art form. In doing so, we will nurture the growth of long-term benefits to our communities.

North Lands Creative Director, Karen Phillips is delighted with the Creative Scotland Award:

"This is great news for arts and culture in Caithness. We are engaged in creative partnerships with organisations and individuals in Caithness and beyond. This confident investment in North Lands will ensure our continued success as a northern Iodestar of Scotland's unique creative vitality."

Recently appointed North Lands Creative Chair, Phil Slater is equally delighted with the news:

"This investment in our organisation allows us to implement a holistic overarching vision for our new arts strategy. This represents a shift in thinking for our organisation towards a more audience and market focused approach. We have a strong track record in learning and education and have recognised a demand for different models which we are now able to deliver this to our audiences"

We will also be focussing our efforts towards long term sustainability with an inspiring vision for the future. We have already started a major capital development in our hot shop in order to realise a fully sustainable glass studio both fiscally and environmentally.

Following on from this exciting news, a gentle reminder that the deadline for our 2018 programme of masterclasses and specialised workshops is fast approaching. This season, we are delighted to be welcoming inspiring luminaries Silvia Levenson, Anne Petters, Karen Akester, Alan Horsley, Marina Hanser, Anthony Scala, Karl Harron and Ian Pearson leading the specialised workshops and masterclasses. Further information about the classes can be found on our website and booking is much easier with our new website. Please apply by 31st January.

We are delighted to announce the release of our early bird tickets for our 23rd Annual Forum. The ‘Glass Nexus’ Forum will bring together a range of experts in the field of glass for two days of public thinking and private incitement to explore the hard questions we’ve been asking and the challenges we’re facing will be answered with some realistic, achievable and visionary possibilities. This is your forum, your opportunity to broker new relationships with guest speakers from China, Japan, Europe and the US. Please visit our website to find out more and to purchase your ticket!
