Djúpid (The Deep) is a world premiere, critically acclaimed new play, by Icelander Jon Atli Jonasson.

Jon Atli Jonasson's recent successes include his adaptation of Woychek at the Barbican with a specially commissioned score by Nick Cave. Jon Atli also had major European success with his last play Brim (Surf), that played at all the major European Theatre Festivals in 2006.

Liam Brennan is one of the Scotland's finest stage actors, critically and publicly acclaimed for his performances in the major Shakesperian roles in this country and overseas. His award winning seasons at the Globe, in the US and the major venues in Scotland have received national critical acclaim.

Graeme Maley has received national recognition and critical acclaim for the development and directing of new plays. As director at the Liverpool Everyman, he developed much of the work of the current crop of new writing in Britain. The success of Maley's Icelandic National Premiere of David Harrower's 'Blackbird' in 2007, led directly to this production.

Djúpid (The Deep) is based on a true event. A fishing boat sinks, and all bar one are lost. The survivor battles for life, and endures an epic struggle in a Pincher Martinesque fashion. This is a beautifully simple tale that touches the heart, translated into a tough and bristling Scots idiom and performed tremendously by Liam Brennan.
