Wick RBLS Pipe Band took advantage of the roadworks which caused the overnight closure of High Street outside the Pipe Band Hall to hold a practice prior to their visit to Germany. The practice provided an unexpected treat for a large group of German tourists staying overnight in the town.
The winners of last Saturday's BBC1 programme "When Will I Be Famous", the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have agreed to play at a Massed Pipe Band event in Wick in September. The live TV show is hosted by Graham Norton and each week 8 different acts compete for a £10,000 first prize.
Music Marathon - Sunday 18 February 2.00 - 7.00pm Every Thursday evening Wick Youth Club's Music-Link-Media offers a 'drop-in' workshop from 6pm to 10pm for young people aged 14 or over which has grown to have an average attendance of 90 members each week. Free tuition is provided in media skills, bass or lead guitar, drumming, harmonica as well as voice coaching.

The Caithness Music Festival has had another great week with lot of entries. As always the flow of children across the county from rural schools to Wick and thurso has kept the buses very busy.
The concert held in the Episcopal Church, Wick on Friday 26 May 2006, by Wick Choral. The concert was well attended and the audience were treated to items from Wick Choral, Caithness Handbell Ringers and a short Organ Recital by Margaret Widdowson.
Quayside formed during the summer of 2005. Margaret MacDonald, who has sung locally for a number of years, and Bob Turner, who plays guitar, teamed up to provide support to a charity concert in the Wick Youth Club.
Music Link Media the project that began in March based at Wick Youth Club is racing ahead with music tuition, video and a range of other activities aimed at introducing young people to music and the associated activities that make it all happen. April 2006 Photos.

MUSIC LINK MEDIA LAUNCHES IT'S VERY OWN BATTLE OF THE BANDS BUT WITH A DIFFERENCE YOU MUST PERFORM 3 SONGS, ONE MUST BE AN ORIGINAL COMPOSITION, ONE MUST BE A COVER VERSION OF A COUNTRY CLASSIC IN YOUR OWN STYLE AND ONE MUST BE EITHER A COVER OF A BLUES OR A REGGAE SONG. Bands can be made up of 3 to 6 members and any existing bands e.g.
The final concerts of our 25th anniversary season take place this week, on Wednesday 29 March in Wick Old Parish Church and on Thursday 30th March in Thurso High School Hall. Both concerts start at 7.30 pm and should be finished by 9.15 pm.
The exciting new music tution programme Music Link Media is now up and running with a programme of tuition already taking place. Lots of young people are already signed up to take part in lessons on all apsects of the music industry from playing through to sound and filming.

A great new opportunity for young people to take part in music and film workshops over the next two years will soon be available in a new project Music Link Media. This well funded project will have five part time staff led by Douglas Cowie a well known local musician.
For folk who missed the Wick Pipe Band Festival recently a video is now available of all of the parades. M & M Video have produced a compilation of all of the events from the week where several pipe bands took part individually and as a massed band at the Market Square, Wick and at the riverside.

The Caithness & North Sutherland Children's Choir sang at the The Boys Brigade Anniversary Reception in Thurso. Caithness councillors welcomed the Boys Brigade Representatives from all over the UK to a civic reception to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of William Smith founder of the Boys Brigade..
UKAEA Dounreay have sponsored uniforms for Caithness & North Sutherland Children's Choir, which is run for children from Primary 4 age to Secondary 2. Throughout the year the choir sings at local events entertaining all ages of the community.
