Thurso High School pupil Charlotte Gordon (13) has this week received the First Prize at the prestigious Pushkin Prize Award Ceremony, held in Edinburgh last Monday. Charlotte's prize-winning portfolio of writing included an extract from her fourth fantasy novel and a short poem entitled "Singing in the Rain".
A Sinclair Odyssey combines arts and archaeology to tell the stories of the Sinclair Clan of Caithness. With a glittering Street Parade and an opportunity to step back in time at The Gathering, Odyssey will explore the themes of Ancestry and Homecoming in the county of Caithness.

The National Theatre Ensemble comes to Strathy Hall on 12 May and Wick Assembly Rooms on 14 May for two professional shows, Dennis Kelly's 'Our Teacher is a Troll' and Liz Lochhead's 'Mary Queen of Scots Got Her Head Chopped Off'. Area Cultural Officer, Adrian Clark, said: "I am really excited about this visit, which is in addition to the National Theatre's Transform project just starting up in Thurso.

Auntie Janet Saves The Planet is a magical, musical tale taking the audience into the woodland world of Auntie Janet and her forest friends. The characters they meet along the way include some of Scotland's endangered species and Auntie Janet and the audience must help them to save their homes.

Inverness Museum & Art Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of an exhibition of the work of the American photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, presented by The Highland Council.

27th April - 15th May The Travelling Gallery will be returning to the Highlands for three weeks at the end of April, after successful visits last year. The custom-build mobile art gallery will be taking its new exhibition 'Finger Buffet', to thirteen schools across the area, and will also be open to the public for the day at the Black Isle Leisure Centre on Monday 4th May.

Inverness College UHI will welcome leading literary figure, Dr Fred Freeman, to its Longman Campus on Wednesday, 29 April to host a talk entitled 'The Unknown Burns: The Songs of Robert Burns'. As part of the Homecoming 2009 celebrations, the talk will introduce an unknown side of Burns with Dr Freeman suggesting that Burns was in fact primarily a songwriter.

Christian band Souled Out began running events at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in 2004, bringing the church in Aberdeenshire and beyond together to worship. Since then thousands of people, of all ages and backgrounds, have joined them on the Souled Out journey.

Young musicians from primary and secondary schools across the Highlands are busy preparing for a public concert which will take place in the Black Isle Leisure Centre, Fortrose on Saturday 18 April. The evening will feature performances by four of the Highland Regional Music Groups including the Highland Youth String Orchestra, 'snas (the Regional ceilidh band), the Highland Youth Pipe Band and the first public recital by the recently formed Gaelic choir, C�isir G which is directed by former MOD gold medallist Eilidh Mackenzie.

JUSTICE SECRETARY CELEBRATES ARTS AND BUSINESS PARTNERSHIPS SUPPORTED BY SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT GRANT SCHEMES On Thursday, 26 March, the Justice Secretary, Kenny MacAskill, celebrated successful arts and business partnerships at a reception at Edinburgh Castle, hosted by Arts & Business Scotland. The partnerships were supported by two Scottish Government match funding streams.
