Caithness Horizons has become the proud owner of the set of three quilts commissioned to mark the Royal National Mòd 2010.

The Kross Kounty Quilters', a group of seven quilters based in Caithness, created the original design as a backdrop to capturing a pictorial representation of the Caithness land and seascape to celebrate the Mòd coming to Caithness.

As a lasting legacy of the Mòd, the local organising committee donated the exquisite collection of quilts to Caithness Horizons.

June Booth, a member of the local organising committee for the Mòd said "The Kross Kounty Quilters did a wonderful job of creating the triptych consisting of a banner and two scenic quilts. It seemed senseless to have it stored away when the Mòd came to an end. By donating it to Caithness Horizons it allows everyone the opportunity to see a beautiful piece of art and leaves a lasting legacy of the Mòd."

Christine Stone, deputy convenor of the local organising committee added "The set of three quilts and the separate quilt which was raffled to raise funds took the quilters forty-five hours to design and a further 200 hours of sewing. The detail in each of the pieces is incredible. We, as a Local Organising Committee are hugely indebted to the Kross Kounty Quilters for their enthusiasm, dedication and skill. Their team work in creating the finished pieces for Mòd Ghallaibh is to be admired and we take this opportunity to thank them again for all their work."

Lyn Ball, Kross Kounty Quilters, said "We are extremely pleased to know our work is part of the prodigious legacy the Mòd has left in Caithness and it is fitting that it will be displayed in Caithness Horizons where it can be seen by all"

Joanne Howdle, Caithness Horizons said "We were delighted to accept the collection of quilts into the contemporary decorative arts element of our collections. We hope that this acquisition will inspire other artists and craftspeople working in Caithness to donate their work to the Museum".

"The triptych will remain on display until the end of the year. From 2011 onwards parts of it will be on display dependent on the timetable for other exhibitions that are programmed at the Museum It is a work of art and is incredibly intricate in its design. It represents, not only the Mòd coming to Caithness, but also the talented craftspeople that live and work in the county."
