This event has been organised by the HIGHLAND SOCIETY of AUTHORS, recently established to aid published authors get out there and tell their local communities about themselves and their work, and promote creative writing in the Highlands. This reading is part of a programme of readings in public spaces throughout Summer and Autumn.
DONALD McKINNEY, who is a well-known Thurso writer who has published several volumes of non-fiction on the mythology and spirituality of the Highlands, and has also just published a book of short stories, Why we Howl at the moon : stories for the 21st century.
DAVID ROSS was born and bread in Tain in Easter Ross, and worked for many years in the central belt teaching creative writing and music compsition. Since his return back home, he has published and very Highland-centred collection of stories, Highland Views.
CLIO GRAY has won many awards for her short stories, culminating with winning the Scotsman/Orange prize 2006, and has had a collection published, Types of Everlasting Rest. She is also the author of a series of historical thrillers, the first of which, Guardians of the Key, won the Harry Bowling Prize in 2004, and the third of which, Envoy of the Black Pine, has just been published in hardback.
