Feis Air An Or - Newsletter October 2008

We are delighted to announce the following workshops and events which will be taking place before Christmas. We would like to extend a warm welcome to new F�is participants and would love to see some new faces at some of the following events. We do hope you will be able to join us. Everyone is welcome, old, young, musicians,(beginners and experienced), storytellers, singers, dancers (soup makers and tea ladies too!!) Or if you'd just like to listen - come along! EXCITING CONCERT AND MASTER CLASS OPPORTUNITY!

The Rachel Walker Band
IN CONCERT
Strathy Hall
Tuesday 28th October at 7.30pm

ALSO, we have been lucky enough to secure the expertise of Rachel and her band members to do some workshops for the f�is. Workshops in the following disciplines will be held in Strathy Hall from 4pm until 6pm.

Gaelic Singing/Seinn Gaidhlig
Rachel Walker was introduced to Gaelic singing during her years in Kinlochewe Priimary School. Since these days, Rachel has gone on to study Gaelic Singing at the RSAMD and has released two Solo singing cd's. She is in much demand as a performer and as a tutor.

Fiddle/Fidhle
Jenna Reid is one of the leading Shetland fiddlers of her generation and one of the brightest young talents on the Scottish traditional music scene. As well as her work as a perfomer, Jenna is also a sought after tutor, having worked alongside legendary fiddle player, Liz Carroll.

Guitar/Giotar
Ewan Robertson won the BBC Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the year award in January this year. He is an experienced tutor as well as a performer and a member of the highly acclaimed band Brebach.

Whistle/Bagpipes/ Feadog/Piob
Angus Mackenzie plays pipes with top traditional band Daimh and has many years of teaching experience under his belt.

There will be a �5 charge to cover workshop costs and a light meal will be available to participants who will be invited to play a 15 minute set at the beginning of the concert.

Joint fundraising Ceilidh Dance from F�is air an Oir and the Thurso National Mod.
Strathy Hall at 7.30pm

Bring all your friends and relations to support this event!

Workshops with our usual tutors will be held at 3pm and items will be prepared to perform at the concert at night. A light meal will be provided for F�is participants.

Saturday 6th December 10am -1pm

Don't miss the final F�is of the year with surprise special guest!!
