7.00pm Friday 16th May 2008

Four rock bands are lining up for a one off charity gig at Skinandiis Night Club in Thurso next week. On Friday 16 May Disco Fish, Astronot, Liquid Blue and No Exit Wound are combining their talents to offer four live sets. This special event has been put together by local girl Kara Gray.

Kara has organised the gig as part of a graded unit for her HNC Music Course she is studying at Aberdeen College. All proceeds from the show are going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society Caithness Branch and Kara said 'my grandad had MS and loved music and I thought it would be nice to give something back locally'.

As well as setting up the event Kara will be playing with her band, Disco Fish. The Aberdeen based six piece also feature Laura Ryrie from Orkney on vocals, Steven Thomson from Orkney on guitar, Fraser Edwards from Birmingham on guitar, Luke Redpath from Aberdeen on drums and Ian Murray from Aberdeen on bass.

Caithness based sponsorship has been forthcoming from British Telecom Retail and British Telecom Global and DSRL and No Exit Wound from Thurso and Liquid Blue from Wick intend to keep the night rocking. Topping the bill at the end of the night are Astronot, fresh from the launch of their debut mini album, Renaissance. Engineered at Kiltarlity by Mark Thomas, who has worked with Oasis and Muse, the tracks have been picking up positive feedback further south. Drummer Darren Macleod said 'we've been busy recently but when Kara got in touch and told us about the charity event we thought it was a great idea. On Friday we aim to deliver a terrific show'.

The MS charity event doors open at 7.00pm on Friday and Kara is hoping for a large crowd. She said 'most of us don't know what it's like to have a disability, but we all have friends or family who do. This is a chance to support our community whilst listening to some really great bands, so please come along and show your support. You'll have a good time'.
