Screenwriting and Development Workshop Series

27th March 2008

Workshop 1

McLean Room, Eden Court, Inverness
Saturday 12th April 2008
9.30am-5pm

Are you a writer with a track record but not particularly in screen?

Have you got what it takes to write a brilliant and compelling drama script?

Do you normally work in isolation but would relish the opportunity to team write?

This first workshop is aimed at writers of all sorts who would like to test their writing and creative abilities in developing a specific idea for television drama. We'll look at the skeleton of what to develop and how it all fits together.

This is the first of two workshops and you must be able to attend both.

This workshop is free to attend and lunch will be provided. Please note that no reimbursement for travel or accommodation will be given so please bear this in mind when applying. There is a maximum space for 15 writers.

Workshop 2

Dundee Contemporary Arts (DCA), Dundee
Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June 2008
9.30am-5pm

The second workshop is 2-day residential taking place in Dundee on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th June. We will develop our idea further using the understanding gained from Workshop 1. The aim for this workshop is to produce Character Bible, Series Arcs, treatment for the first episode and an outline of subsequent episodes.

You must be available to attend not only both days in June but also the workshop in April. Again, this workshop is free to attend with lunch being provided, however as it is residential, accommodation costs will be covered. Travel arrangements must be made by the individual participant with no reimbursement. There is a maximum space on this
workshop for 6 writers.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work at an industry level with a commissioned professional.

To apply:
Please send a 1 page writing sample to - amanda.millen[AT]hient.co.uk

It can be an excerpt from something you have written, a treatment for a drama - whatever format; anything that illustrates your writing skill and creativity. We will not be developing any ideas you send in in your writing sample so please don't agonise over this submission. It is purely to give us an idea of your talent. Please also send a paragraph biography in the body of your email.

In order to attend you must live and work in the Highlands and Islands or in Dundee City Council catchment area.

Electronic submissions only will be accepted and anything not fulfilling the requirements will also not be considered (ie writing sample longer than 1 page or a CV instead of a paragraph biog)

As you will be set a creative reading task prior to attendance on Saturday 12th April, please submit your application by Wednesday 9th April but preferably as soon as possible.
