The Commonwealth Foundation has announced that the Commonwealth Arts and Crafts Awards 2007 are now open for application. Artists and crafts people from all commonwealth countries are encouraged to enter the awards, and from mid 2007 as many as ten winners will receive a grant of up to �8,000 to travel and study in another Commonwealth country. The Awards are built around two-way sharing.
Award winners undertake a residency period with an artist or arts institution in their chosen country where they develop their artistic and personal skills, and share skills and knowledge with artists and the wider community from the host country.
Aims
The specific aims of the Awards are:
to increase awareness and appreciation of different cultures among Commonwealth artists and craftspeople;
to enable artists and craftspeople to develop new artistic skills;
to enable artists and craftspeople to develop personal and organisational skills;
to enable artists and craftspeople to share their skills with others in their host country;
to increase knowledge and understanding of art and culture in other Commonwealth countries amongst arts organisations and communities
The closing date for applications is the 1st May 2007.
