Hot on the heels of last Friday's Highland 2007 Launch and Lifescan Monster Street Party, Highland 2007 have announced today that international rock star Sir Elton John will play in the Highlands as part of the year of Highland culture celebrations!

The concert will take place at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, Inverness, on Sunday 15 July and will be the opening event for InvernessFest, a new festival taking place in the Highland capital between 15 and 29 July 2007.

Highland 2007 chair, Alison Magee, said: "We are delighted to be working with local partners in bringing such a major artist to the Highlands in 2007. Highland 2007 is all about bringing the spotlight on the Highlands and showing the rest of the world that it is a great place to live and to visit.

EventScotland chief executive, David Williams, said: "We are pleased that such a high profile figure such as Sir Elton John has agreed to take part in the year of Highland culture, contributing to a packed programme full of quality events."

Alan Savage, chairman of Caley Thistle, said: "This is a tremendous attraction for the city and the region and Caley Thistle is very pleased to be hosting this major event in the Highlands. It is the first time we have hosted a concert at the stadium and hopefully will pave the way for future events of this nature."

This will be Elton John's only ever performance in Inverness, and the first concert ever
hosted at Inverness Caledonian Thistles ground. Caley Thistle have been able to secure the talents of the premier league entertainer, in what will be a show-stopping end to their 2006/2007 season.

Football mad Elton has staged many hugely successful concerts in football clubs around the country over the last few years and this year's Inverness event will be one of only a handful of outdoor shows Sir Elton will undertake. The combination of Elton John, together with his band, performing in a seated outdoor venue, has always met with tremendous acclaim. This outdoor concert will be staged within the existent
facilities of the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, with reserved seating on the pitch.

Tickets will go on public sale on Tuesday 23 January at 9am and can be purchased by
phoning the Elton John 24 hour ticket hotlines below.

Tickets for this fully reserved seated event are priced at £75.00, £60.00 & £40.00 with a limited number of premium tickets also available. Tickets will be limited to six per customer.

Alan Savage chairman of Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club said:"Elton John is a global superstar whose concert at our ground is an absolutely tremendous attraction, enhancing the profile of the city and the whole Highlands. I'm extremely proud that ourclub has been able to bring north a global icon and host such a superb occasion. The whole area will be buzzing at the news. It should be a real money spinner and all our income from the concert will go to strengthening manager Charlie Christie's football budget for next season."

Elton's performance in Inverness coincides with Highland 2007, the year Scotland celebrates Highland culture, promoting the Highlands as a great place to live and to visit through showcasing the unique and special nature of Highland culture past, present and future.
