At last a chance to hear again this marvellous band who so many of you have been asking for. This bunch of top Scottish musicians have got the lot - bags of talent, a great sense of theatre and an ear for a very wide range of music of very different styles from many countries to produce an evening of first-rate entertainment.
They play thrillingly original cutting-edge klezmer and folk music which makes for an intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances.
Formed in Edinburgh in 2003, Moishe's Bagel combines the energy and passion of Eastern European folk music with the excitement and soul of improvisation. Boasting some of the best instrumentalists that Scotland has to offer (Salsa Celtica, Camille O'Sullivan, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Eliza Carthy, Scottish National Jazz Orchestra), we are equally at home jamming in a late night jazz den, grooving at a forest festival, or enthralling an upmarket concert hall.
Everything began when four of us met in a local tango outfit, and once we had recruited a percussion wizard to give a new twist to the klezmer/Balkan groove, we knew we had found an unbeatable mix. Not too concerned with authenticity (there are enough people doing that already), we let the interaction of our individual musical personalities create our style. Our sound mixes klezmer, folk dance, jazz, eastern percussion and more, topped off with dazzling technique and classical rigour. Our live sets feature quite a bit of improvisation, whilst the energy keeps them highly danceable, as well as visually and aurally exciting. These days we play more and more original material, taking us even further into our own distinctive sound.
Over the last six years we have regularly toured the UK, taking in the Jazz Cafe, Edinburgh's Queens Hall, the Sage Gateshead, St George's Bristol and many many more (including frequent village hall gigs - some of our favourites). We have been to Ireland and the Czech Republic, and played at festivals up and down the country - check the Live page to see where we are heading next. We have now recorded three studio albums (see the Music page for more details), and the band continues to evolve. Here's just a small selection of what people have said about us...
"exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often breath-takingly intricate but played with jubilation ... the Bagel acquires the momentum of an express train"
The Herald
"expressive and raunchy ... improvising confidence but with a classical attention to detail ... striking new material"
The Guardian
"this brilliantly accomplished and adventurous five-piece emphatically puts the "class" into "unclassifiable".

Global Village Idiot Magazine
"one of the most moving musical experiences of my life ... the audience were completely blown away by the performance"
Round and About Mull
"Consummate musicians, the degree of concentration and engagement with their music is palpable ... this is high-class work"
