Magic Lantern Show & Informal Talk For Adults

For Livingstone’s bicentenary this year Author and Storyteller Ewan McVicar is touring a “Livingstone’s Magic Lantern” show around Scotland.
The show will investigate links between Livingstone and Thurso baker and botanist Robert Dick. It will be followed by an informal non-expert investigation of aspects of local geology, involving handling geological specimens and fossils.
This is a FREE event but places are limited so pre-booking is essential.

The Big Craft Giveaway

Caithness Horizons is one of the venues across Scotland taking part in the Big Craft Giveaway. Come and join us at a FREE drop in session on Saturday 14th September and help us to create ceramic seed pods and the leaves of Scottish plants with ceramicist Lorna Fraser.

North Coast Journey- Alternative Tourist Route - Debbie Lee
Debbie Lee An exhibition of textile art celebrating the special landscape along the north coast route from John O‘Groats to Ullapool ‘Throughout Scotland there are sign posts to direct travellers, ‘tourists', off the main route and onto an ‘Alternative Tourist Route'. The sign at John O’ Groats directing people to Ullapool using the north coast is both inspiring and to me amusing.

Caithness Horizons Museum welcomes half a million visitors
Tuesday 11th August saw local group No Limits Caithness visit the Museum for a morning packed with Viking activities with Curator Joanne Howdle, or Thordis EirÃksdóttir as she is fondly known to local groups and schools. The group helped the Museum to hit the half million visitors mark and to celebrate they were presented with a special cake made in the Museum's cafe.

Caithness Horizons in Thurso has secured Museum Accreditation for the next three years. The award is made by Museums Galleries Scotland and Arts Council England under the 2011 Museum Accreditation Standard.
