Finding funding for a film is difficult unless you have practical experience. It's even harder to get practical experience without any funding! Enter Grass Roots Media, film's answer to the Arctic Monkeys, a new production company dedicated to showcasing and promoting young talent from the ground up.

Grass Roots Media is a film company with an innovative approach to on-line promotion. Their first production, The London Affair was shot in a single day, with no budget and has been released free of charge on their website Grassroots Media. The film has attracted a huge on-line following through word of mouth and all 6 parts are now being shown on a BBC digital channel.

Director Nick Jones states:
"All of the cast and crew for The London Affair are aware of how hard it is to start out in the film industry and have pledged their support to Grass Roots Media because they believe in what we are trying to do. Grass Roots Media will strive to act as a support mechanism for talented young filmmakers who might otherwise find it difficult to take the first step."

Grass Roots Media are Nick Jones (26) Jordan Blood (27) Mike Seaman (26) and Sam Richards (25). The company was formed in 2005 and has committed to continually release low-budget short films via their website without charging the viewer a penny to watch. Aspiring scriptwriters are also encouraged to send in their ideas and Grass Roots Media pledge to turn one of these scripts into a film each year.

The plans don't stop there, a second production, The Script And The Rose is already slated for release via the website and there are further plans for a big-budget short film, featuring some big names from the UK film industry.

Grass Roots Media have also agreed that the cast for The Script And The Rose will be selected via an on-line audition process. Anyone can apply and previous acting experience is not necessary!

A chance for any budding North of Scotland actors perhaps. On the web site got to Productions and then choose Sowing Seeds. Anyone can send int a short folm clip of themselves or even a recording. All you need to do ie send in your CV and then they wuill send you a monologue to record by one of various means. The best will be placed on the web site and selections made by the viewing public. So nothing to lose.
