An unusual exhibition of twenty performing automata from Cabaret Mechanical Theatre opens at the St Fergus Gallery, Wick on 10th August until 7th September.   The machines, or mechanical toys, come to life when visitors press a button and activate the mechanisms.

Oil and Glass held the the opening night on 2nd august 2013 of "New Grads 13," an exhibition of works by selected 2013 graduates of Grays School of Art - Rachel Kerr - Annirose Ansbro - Harriet Voar - Laura Mcglinchey - Michael Astbury - Lauren Milton - Gemma Balfour - Tomasz Wrobel - Amy Brown - Holly Aitchison - Jon Nicolson - Yasmin Oskooi - Grant McNicoll.   During the exhibition pieces will also be showcased in a number of windows in Torry Town Centre, including the constituency office of MSP Maureen Watt, Gail Goodfellow Solicitor and Eternal Video/Janie Barclay photography.

lo-fi phase 0.1 will develop between five and seven low budget screenplays in three workshops working with some of the UK’s foremost script editors.  At the end of phase 0.1 the projects will be pitched to an industry panel and one project will be selected for phase 0.2 – advanced development.

Launch of first project in River Ness public arts programme
One of the spin-off benefits of the River Ness Flood Scheme is the creation of a major public arts programme to enhance the attractions of the riverscape in Inverness city centre.   A total of £750,000 has been earmarked for the programme, entitled SHIFT//SEÒL, that will feature a series of permanent artworks of high quality to enhance the riverscape and increase the number of people visiting the area.

FM outlines support for Outlander and extends invite to further productions.   First Minister Alex Salmond has rolled out the red carpet for more television and movie productions to be filmed in Scotland as he outlined the package of expert support that helped entice a major US drama series to shoot on location in this country.

University to set campus at Belladrum
The University of the Highlands and Islands will be setting up campus at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival again this year as one of the event’s main sponsors.  Festival-goers are invited to find out more about their local university by dropping into its trailer in the Walled Garden or getting involved in the activities students and staff have organised around the Bella site.

Mill Theatre, Thurso - receives £5,000 towards its 'Roof Repair'
THIRD ROUND OF SMALL GRANTS ANNOUNCED BY THE THEATRES TRUST The Theatres Trust is pleased to announce its third round of small capital grants to theatres across the nation, including one of the smallest theatres in the UK - the Tom Thumb Theatre in Margate - and the most northerly theatre in the mainland - the Mill Theatre in Thurso.   This current round of grants provides assistance to five local and community-based theatres across the UK.
