Joanne B Kaar is a renowned artist based at Dunnet Head, on the north coast of Caithness in the Highlands of Scotland. This ever-changing coastal landscape provides a constant source of inspiration for her papermaking, bookbinding and collages which are highly acclaimed. As well as frequent exhibitions across Scotland and beyond, Joanne runs regular workshops for all age groups and abilities across the country and is often commissioned by schools and community groups to help them create inspirational environments. In 2004 Joanne was invited as artist-in-residence at the Chaoyang University of technology and also the Su-Ho paper museum in Taiwan. Always eager to share her expertise and skills, Joanne's books on papermaking and bookbinding have been published by the Guild of Master Craftsman.

Earlier this year, Caithness artists Joanne B Kaar and Liz O’Donnell started a fundraiser for Brough Bay Association and Castletown Heritage Society, inviting the public to get arty and made postcard size artwork inspired by the sea. Exciting things are afoot at four Scottish museums as they embark upon projects with acclaimed Scottish artists who will draw inspiration from - and cast a new perspective on - their collections and buildings. These new creative collaborations are the first to be awarded through Iconic Artists in Iconic Places - a collaborative project by Museums Galleries Scotland and Creative Scotland to celebrate Scotland's icons past and present by enabling artists to be inspired by museum collections, historic sites, and Scotland's intangible cultural heritage, also known as living culture.
