Opportunity for Artists & Makers at Caithness Horizons

24th October 2008

In December 2008 the refurbished Thurso Town Hall and Carnegie Library reopens to the public as Caithness Horizons. The first temporary exhibition on display in the gallery will be 'Your Ocean', a touring exhibition from the National Maritime Museum looking at man's impact on the ocean and its future sustainability.

In addition to the gallery space, there is provision in the cafe area for the display of wall-based artwork. Caithness Horizons is asking for submissions from artists in response to the theme of 'Your Ocean' for display in this area. There are no restrictions to medium except the work must be able to be hung from a picture hanging system.

The work will be on show from the opening of the building (currently scheduled for 1st December) until 11 Jan 2009. If you are interested in being considered for this exhibition, please submit a maximum of 3 images preferably in digital format of the work that you would like considered. The deadline for submission is 14th November. Artists will be contacted by 21st November if their work has been selected. Work must be available for delivery to Caithness Horizons between 27th - 29th November.

Please include an artist's statement outlining how your work addresses the theme of 'Your Ocean'. Please also include the dimensions and medium of the work. The work must be ready to hang. If framed, please do not use clip frames.

Work will be selected from that submitted to fit the space available. Submitting images is no guarantee that work will be selected.

Caithness Horizons will handle all sales. Commission of 30% will be taken from any work sold.
