Highland 2007 - ThreeSixFive Winner

13th January 2008

The winner of the Highland 2007 ThreeSixFive photography competition, Jake Threadgould, received his prize from Scotland's First Minister, Alex Salmond, at the Highland 2007 Highland Portrait's event in Eden Court (Friday 11 January 2008).

Highland 2007 in association with Fin Macrae Photography launched the exciting project to record life in the Highlands and Islands in January 2007. Since then 52 participants from throughout the Highland and Islands have taken 365 photographs - one for each day of Scotland's year of highland culture.

Jake (17) from Gairloch in Ross Shire was judged to have taken the "best" photos in the year. He was presented with a top of the range Canon digital SLR camera kit.

Jake said: "I am very pleased and surprised to have won! The quality of the pictures throughout the year has been excellent and really diverse so it's a great honour to have my photos win this competition. It's been a fantastic project to be a part of and I hope it encourages more young people to get involved in photography."

All the ThreeSixFive photographs can be viewed at http://photos.highland2007.com/ - including those taken by well known personalities from the Highlands and Islands such as Tilda Swinton, Cameron Stout, JoLoMo, John Byrne, Ewan MacDonald, Lesley McKenna, Mylo and Ray Atkinson.

Photographer Fin Macrae said: "Working on this project has been great. It went beyond my expectations and I was delighted by the response from both the participants and the wider public. I'd like to pass on my sincere thanks to all those who took part. I think ThreeSixFive does a great job of showing a broad picture of life in the Highlands and Islands throughout 2007 and is a great legacy of the year."

Fin Macrae also took portrait photographs of all 52 participants to add to the collection. A publishing deal has been agreed to create a book of all the images which, it is hoped, will be available later this year. A touring exhibition will be created to accompany the publication bringing the images to the Highlands and beyond.
