Scottish Traditional Music Graded Exams - New Financial Support

6th June 2007

Summer is upon us, and with it a fresh update on the development of our Scottish Traditional Music Graded Exams.

I'm pleased to report that the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama recently gave added financial backing to the project, responding to demand across the education sector and showing faith in the exam programme's power to promote inclusiveness, confidence and excellence among young traditional musicians everywhere.

The added support means that the programme can now achieve academic validation, develop its own website for booking and downloading purposes and implement exam sessions up to Grade 5 in three syllabuses - fiddle, accordion and harp.

This, of course, is just the beginning; we will continue to raise funds for the development of additional syllabuses and grades. Work on the validation of the existing three syllabuses and the website has already begun.

We now plan to hold the first exam session during the RSAMD Fèis in Glasgow from 21 to 28 October 2007.

An official launch of the exam programme and the website, featuring full syllabus and registration details, will be announced in late July or early August.
