Music Marathon At Wick Youth Club

15th February 2007

Music Marathon - Sunday 18 February 2.00 - 7.00pm

Every Thursday evening Wick Youth Club's Music-Link-Media offers a 'drop-in' workshop from 6pm to 10pm for young people aged 14 or over which has grown to have an average attendance of 90 members each week. Free tuition is provided in media skills, bass or lead guitar, drumming, harmonica as well as voice coaching. Young people are welcome to come in and have a game of pool, or just listen to the bands and hang out with their friends.

On Sunday 18th February 2007 Music-Link-Media are staging a sponsored non-stop music marathon from 2pm to 7pm. All funds raised are going towards improving the sound proofing of the Youth Club building. New windows and fire doors are required in the main hall to minimise the noise that radiates from within the building as well as other structural sound proofing improvements. Some local businesses have agreed to minimise costs in a bid to help support the community.

Several bands have been formed within MLM and there will be various line ups playing on Sunday. Many of the young people have been gathering sponsors for a few weeks now. The music will be continuous and the bands will have to go from song to song without stopping. Each group have been allocated a 20 minute slot that they can fill with their choice of music so you can expect to hear varied styles, from heavy metal to indie music.

The public are welcome to come along and enjoy the talents of local youth. Entry fee is only 3 so it's affordable for all of the family. If anyone would like to make a donation, please contact Koreen MacDougall, Youth Development Officer, Community Learning & Leisure, The Highland Council on 01955 609901 or via the MLM website -www.wycmusiclinkmedia.co.uk
