Wick Traditional Music Workshop - New Format

6th October 2006

The latest workshop of Wick Traditional Music workshop will take place on 11 November. A new format is to be introduced. Instead of classes set up for one instrument at a time, they will now be trying out doing a groupwork performance workshop.

Celtic fiddle band SESSION A9 are the featured musicians, line up being

* Charlie McKerron - fiddle (Capercaillie)
* Gordon Gunn - fiddle ( Gordon Gunn Band / Anam)
* Adam Sutherland - fiddle (Peat Bog Fairies)
* Kevin Henderson - fiddle (Fiddlers Bid)
* Kris Drever - guitar & vocals ( Fine Friday / Lau)
* Brian McAlpine - keyboards (Gordon Gunn Band / Unusual Suspects)
* Iain Copeland - percussion (Peat Bog Fairies)
* Tim Edey - melodeon & nylon string guitar

Participants are welcome from improving beginner to advanced players of all instruments and are invited to work with Session A9 to create a piece of music in a group setting and be involved as the arrangement takes shape over the period of morning and afternoon sessions in Wick High School.

In the evening, a concert in the MacKay's Hotel Wick featuring Session A9 will take place, this concert will also feature a performance from all the participants performing with Session A9 featuring the piece of music arranged through out the days workshop classes.

A Scottish family dance will follow to end the evening.

Fees which are all inclusive of workshop, concert and dance - Adults �25 Children 16 or under �20

The day is sure to be an exciting opportunity for musicians from through out the north of Scotland to work and perform alongside some of Scotland's top musicians.

Session A9 are currently in the studio recording there new album which should be released at Celtic Connections in January 2007.

Over the past year A9 have performed at Darvel Festival, Shetland Festival, Newcastle Folkworks, Celtic Connections, Brigg Fetival Tonder Fetival Denmark, Various festivals in Spain & Italy, name just a few with some great reviews.
