Fribo is an international meeting of talented musicians. Charismatic singer and flautist Anne Sofie Linge Valdal is Norwegian and percussionist Magnus Lundmark is Swedish. Guitarist Ewan MacPherson is Liverpudlian. From Scotland we have fiddle player Lauren MacColl (standing in for Hannah Reid) and Alex Hunter as guest bass player. Described by one reviewer as "new music from the old north", this band re-invents Scandinavian and Scottish music.
After first playing around an old Edinburgh kitchen table in 2003, Fribo have become experts in finding subtle ways of exchanging traditions whilst expressing them anew, with an exuberant feel for contemporary sounds and rhythms. Now, after honing their musical explorations through five years' touring experience and a very well received debut album, Fribo is rapidly gaining recognition and acclaim. The band released their second album called 'Happ' (Old Norn language meaning "in good health") in March 2011 which is already picking up great reviews, positive comment and airplay.
To date, Fribo have toured through Europe and North America, performing at large-scale events such as: WOMAD; Celtic Connections; APAP, Vancouver; Folk Baltica Festival; Telemark Festival, Calgary; Gosport and Blàs. The band has been featured artist and can be heard regularly on many radio stations worldwide including: BBC Radio Scotland and Radio 3, ABC Australia, Radio Nan Gaidheal and the BBC World Service.
The dynamic blending of Voices, Willow Flute, Fiddle, Jews Harp and Guitar has become a "...zestful, vibrant, multi-national North Sea sound." (Womad)

Lyth Arts Centre Look To The Future Following Funding Award
Worries over the financial outlook for Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) have been eased for the time being after the venue was awarded £97,000 in Scottish Government funding. The sum - from the Performing Arts Venues Relief Fund - represents the full figure requested by co-directors Charlotte Mountford and Tom Barnes, who say the money secures LAC's short-term future up to the end of March next year.

Danish duo Andreas Tophøj and Rune Barslund perform with violin, accordion and viola. The accomplished duo has its roots in Jutland, Denmark, and emerged from the folk scene formed around the Academy of Music in Odense, which until recently was named after composer and musician Carl Nielsen.
