The Sweetener Coming To Lyth Arts Centre

It's 1972. After devoting his lifetime to sweetening the soundtracks of the stars with canned laughter, Ed looks back over his career and finds himself having to decide who should get the last laugh.
This is the latest production from Arts in Motion, the Highlands most innovative multi-media company.
Inspired by the work of Charles Rolland Douglass http://www.independent.co.uk/news/obituaries/charlie-douglass-730238.html the original inventor of the Laugh Machine, Dave Smith was intrigued by the life of a laugh box operator, and the pressures the operator was under to make everything sound funny.
While being a fictional creation, Ed is set firmly in the reality of the seventies and the world of Los Angeles production companies.
In this production Arts in Motion have taken the opportunity to experiment more with sound rather than video and projection and the result is a fascinating evening, part story, part experiment in sound....wholly enjoyable!
The show lasts one hour and is performed by James Bryce (Monarch of the Glen, Take the High Road, The Bill, www.jamesbryce.org.uk . The sound for the show has been designed by John McGeoch of Arts in Motion.
The Highland tour includes Fortrose, Invergordon, Golspie and Lyth. Thereafter the show will be going on a more extended tour of Scotland.
The show has been funded by the Scottish Arts Council through the Highland Producers Fund.

Lyth Arts Centre Look To The Future Following Funding Award
Worries over the financial outlook for Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) have been eased for the time being after the venue was awarded £97,000 in Scottish Government funding. The sum - from the Performing Arts Venues Relief Fund - represents the full figure requested by co-directors Charlotte Mountford and Tom Barnes, who say the money secures LAC's short-term future up to the end of March next year.
