Memories - 25 Years Of Bobby Coghill On 3CD's

23rd October 2005

Ross Records are releasing three CDs featuring a total of seventy tracks of accordion, fiddle and pipe music recorded by the late Bobby Coghill. The series is entitled "Bobby Coghill - Memories" Volumes 1, 2 and 3.

The new CDs are compiled from recordings made by Bobby for Ross Records over a period of 25 years, starting with Bobby's first LP "Far Fae Hame" and they also include the tunes from the videos "Come Over The Ord" and "Caithness Connections" where Bobby played a leading roll.

The new CDs are a fitting tribute to a remarkable and talented musician, sadly missed by his family and many friends.

The new releases will be available in the shops from 4th November and full details are available now on the Ross Records web site www.rossrecords.com

The web site says - By releasing these three CDs we are paying a tribute to a remarkable musician, Bobby Coghill, who died in January 2005. His untimely death was a shock to all who knew him but his memory will live on through his music. For more than twenty years Bobby Coghill recorded a vast number of tracks for Ross Records. Bobby's first LP was "Far Fae Hame" and this was also our first LP of Scottish Traditional Music. Many other recordings were to follow and Bobby's incredible versatility was there for all to see with accordion tracks, fiddle tracks and of course the pipes. In recent years he was undoubtedly the star of our two videos recorded in Caithness, "Come Over The Ord" and " Caithness Connections", both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. Whether it was leading his beloved Wick Royal British Legion Scotland Pipe Band, organising the North Highland Fiddlers, playing the accordion at Dunbeath or the fiddle at John o' Groats, nothing was any trouble to him during these video recordings and he loved every minute of it. Bobby was also a prolific composer and tunes such as "The Chris Duncan Two Step" , "David Smith of Cawdor" and "Ann Ross of Turriff" are regularly heard on radio all over Scotland and beyond. "I Got the Devil for Burning the Tatties" a good tune in its own right, always appealed to radio presenters because of the inherent humour in the title. The latter composition appears on another Ross Records CD by Addie Harper and The Wick Band but as many of Bobby's tunes as possible have been included in this set of three CDs. When you listen to these recordings I hope that the enthusiasm that Bobby displayed for all things musical will come shining through and for all the people that knew him the happy memories of all the ceilidhs, dances, concerts, Pipe Band Summer Shows and other musical events that filled his life will come flooding back.
