Blas Festival (at Lyth Arts Centre)

We are delighted to welcome Blas Festival to Lyth Arts Centre!

Blas Festival was devised by The Highland Council in partnership with Fèisean nan Gàidheal and the Promoters Arts Network to celebrate the culture of traditional music and Gaelic in the Highlands of Scotland. This evenings performances includes two sets of musicians: Adam Sutherland & Marc Clement and Josie Duncan & Pablo Lafuente.

Adam Sutherland & Marc Clement

Adam Sutherland is a fiddler, composer and teacher from Errogie on the south side of Loch Ness. After a twenty year career touring the world with well known bands such as Session A9, Treacherous Orchestra and Peatbog Faeries, Adam has become one of the most well known fiddlers in Scotland. As well as winning ‘Composer of the Year' at the most recent Scots Trad Music Awards, many of his tunes can be heard in sessions worldwide, particularly ‘The Road to Errogie'. This ludicrously infectious reel has so far been recorded on forty different albums, by artists hailing from Spain to the USA to South Korea. Adam's second solo album ‘Some Other Land’ - produced by Marc Clement - was released to critical acclaim earlier this year.

Marc Clement is a highly sought after guitarist, singer and producer from the Highland Capital. His wide ranging skill set mean that he is the go-to studio man for most artists in the Highlands who are looking for top quality album production. As well as performing with Adam in Session A9, and the Adam Sutherland Band, Marc was a founding member of Blazin Fiddles. Known for his classy guitar stylings and passionate legendary singing, Marc is rightly regarded as one of Scottish top traditional performers.

Josie Duncan & Pablo Lafuente

2017 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Winners Josie Duncan and Pablo Lafuente are a vocal/guitar duo like no other.

Calling the Isle of Lewis and Spain home respectively, it’s no wonder their music doesn’t focus on one place or one tradition.

They are well travelled and well-versed in music from across the land. On guitar, and vocals in Gaelic, Scots and English, their music is a round tour, where centuries old ballads meet Gaelic puirt a beul, songs from the mines and cotton mills, as well as some original writing.

Since joining forces in 2016 they’ve taken the scene by storm, quickly becoming an in-demand live act at festivals and venues across the country. In their short time together they’ve delighted the audiences of BBC Radio 2, Celtic Connections Festival, Sofar sessions, and a host of venues across Scotland.
