Breathtaking, riveting and marvellous is how professional reviewers have described Erin Layton's performance in her self-penned play Magdalen and I was absolutely stunned by the production and couldn't be prouder of Lyth Art Centre for giving you the opportunity to see this truly outstanding play. My, but you are in for a treat! And we are delighted to announce that Erin and her director Julie Kline are flying over from NYC to spend a week's residency at LAC working on their next production entitled The Immigrants along with Scottish musician Fraser Fifield so we will all have the opportunity to see this gifted actress in a second production a week later.
Magdalen had attracted international success in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015 and 2016 and the Fringe ENCORE OffBroadway series at New York Citys SoHo Playhouse. It vividly depicts the little-known stories of the women and girls who were sent to wash away their sins in commercial laundries run by orders of nuns in mid-twentieth century Ireland. Their lives are vividly revealed in Erin Laytons compelling multi-character solo play.
This stunning performance swiftly transitions in and out of time periods, embodying with ease all of the many disparate characters (Huffington Post).

Lyth Arts Centre Look To The Future Following Funding Award
Worries over the financial outlook for Lyth Arts Centre (LAC) have been eased for the time being after the venue was awarded £97,000 in Scottish Government funding. The sum - from the Performing Arts Venues Relief Fund - represents the full figure requested by co-directors Charlotte Mountford and Tom Barnes, who say the money secures LAC's short-term future up to the end of March next year.

Danish duo Andreas Tophøj and Rune Barslund perform with violin, accordion and viola. The accomplished duo has its roots in Jutland, Denmark, and emerged from the folk scene formed around the Academy of Music in Odense, which until recently was named after composer and musician Carl Nielsen.
