The Weepers at St Fergus Gallery, Wick

Visit the film production at the St Fergus Gallery from 19th September to 17th October 2015 by Rachel Maclean, The Weepers.
The Weepers was commissioned by Comar on Mull, the film examines the legend of Bean Nighe or Washer Women, a monstrous and ominous spirit. Shot in various locations on Mull the piece presents a darkly comic exploration of the feminine grotesque.
Rachel Maclean (born 1987 in Edinburgh) received her BA (Hons) from Edinburgh College of Art in 2009. She has just been selected for the British Art Show 8, widely recognised as a significant marker of recent developments in contemporary art. Past solo exhibitions include: Happy & Glorious at CCA, Glasgow as part of Generation (2014); I HEART SCOTLAND at Edinburgh Printmakers and Over the Rainbow at the Collective Gallery, Edinburgh (both 2013).
Maclean received the Margaret Tait Award and made Whole New World, commissioned for the Glasgow Film Festival, with the support from Creative Scotland and Lux (2014). She currently lives and works in Glasgow.

The quilting workshop in Wick on Friday this week was completely booked out on the first day it was advertised. Consequently another one has been arranged for Saturday 25th June, 10.30am - 12.30pm.

Visit Spectrum, an exhibition of screen prints by an Edinburgh artist Catherine Sargeant. Catherine graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a 1st class BA(Hons) in Drawing and Painting and she became the first recipient of WASPS new graduate award.
