Two talented Thurso teenagers are on their first step of the ladder to becoming the next big screen legends. The girls have achieved a place with the Scottish Youth Theatre in Glasgow, on the esteemed Summer Festival Foundation Course.

Donna Douglas and Eilidh Williamson, both aged 14, have been awarded a placement, having successfully completed a gruelling audition in Inverness, beating off hundreds of other hopefuls for a place on the popular course.

Donna, an active member of the Thurso Players for four years, said: "We are so excited and proud to have both been accepted. We hoped one of us would be successful but didn't expect to be able to enjoy the experience together. I've always loved drama and dream of being on the stage one day."

Achieving a place on such a prestigious course doesn't come without a price however, and the two girls are now frantically putting their fund-raising plan into action as they have to raise a minimum of 700 sponsorship each.

The girls are hoping for support from generous local organisations and businesses to help them on their way. If you're willing to sponsor the girls or have any fund-raising suggestions please contact Graham Douglas, on 01847 894216 or Shiona Churchill, on 01847 895071.

The placement runs from 3rd to 15th July and is based in the Old Sheriff Court Theatre in Glasgow. The girls will enjoy a programme jam packed with drama and theatre skills tuition. They will work alongside various directors and tutors specialising in theatre arts, culminating with a live group performance on the last night. Break a leg, girls!

The Birthday Party is about Stanley Webber, an erstwhile piano player in his 30s, who lives in a run down boarding house, run by Meg and Petey Boles, in an English seaside town, probably on the south coast, not too far from London.  Two sinister strangers, Goldberg and McCann, who arrive supposedly on his birthday and who appear to have come looking for him, turn Stanleys apparently innocuous birthday party organised by Meg into a nightmare.
