Playing local gigs is another up and coming Caithness band - Cyanide are gradually gaining a following in local clubs, hotels and other venues. Their music sits in the melodic rock band easy listening variety but no doubt they will from time to time let rip with something off the wall.

They are honing their skills covering a wide range of popular classics such as 'Brown eyed girl' and 'Sweet Home Alabama' with the likes of Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac alongside some classic Celine Dion which is a popular one in our. As their repertoir widens they experiment and will try a bit of everything.

The band first got together at a gig in the 'Waterfront' in May where the boys were playing as an instrumental band and Rhoda was singing as a solo artist to backing tracks. It was that night that the boys asked her become the lead singer of Cyanide.

Knowing just how good these young musicians were she was delighted with the offer and joined the band. From there on in they have done many local gigs, improving rapidly with the relentless learning of new songs to make them more marketable and appeal to a wider audience

But this band are ambitious and whilst covers gets a few quid they know the only way to get noticed it to be different and the only way to do that is to write their own material. They are already writing their own material and hope to launch an EP this summer. The group are a five piece band consisting of a lead guitar, rhythmic guitar, bass, drums and female vocalist, along with the occasional 'pop up' of the keyboard.

The style is very much classic rock, along with modern songs and old favourites to ensure they really do have a bit of something for everyone in the sets.

Although only recently formed their work schedule has increased rapidly and they played at the Hogmanay Street Party 2005 alongside 'The Alisdair Wordie Band' and came 3rd in a 'Battle of the bands' competition on the net for young bands all over Scotland, with their first song 'In A Dream'.

Gig coming up in 'The Ashes Bar' and the Weigh-Inn start of March (March 4th) and Holborn again soon. The band are still a bargain at around £200 for smaller venues and negotiation for the larger halls. They will even learn new songs by request for special occasions if plenty of notice is given.

Catch them if you can and watch out for that EP being released later this year.
