40 Years of Art, Music and Entertainment This year at Lyth Arts Centre we celebrate our 40th year of Art, Music and Entertainment. We would love for you to join us for some cake and cava as we open our Summer Exhibition.
Waves
Waves is the story of Elizabeth Moncello: of her youth growing up on a small Australian island in the 1930s and how she came to be the unofficial inventor of the butterfly stroke. An intimate theatrical event combining highly expressive storytelling, delicate movement and splashes of humour to tell Elizabeth's amazing tale of a life fully lived.
STORIES FROM HERE AND THERE - 28th October 2016
As part of The Portskerra Storytelling International Festival, local storyteller Alexandria Patience presents "Stories from here and there" - a mix of traditional Scottish stories given an extra twist with live original music by Donald McNeill. They are joined by Mexican storyteller Ruben Corbett who has performed at some of the most prestigious arts festivals across Latin America as well as Europe and brings us some storytelling warmth (narrated in English) all the way from Mexico to Lyth Arts Centre.
TIM DE GRAAW - TEMPEST CAFÉ THURSO 22 October 2016
*** Note this event takes place in Tempest Cafe Thurso ***South African born singer songwriter Tim De Graaw began his career as a blues guitarist while harbouring a passion for songwriting. After leaving high school in England, he was accepted into the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston and after graduating, he seized an opportunity to move to Los Angeles to work as a professional musician.
BIRLINN JIARG - 29th October 2016
A good chance for families and their youngsters to spend Saturday afternoon sharing the fun of hearing live music indoors and, if it's not too cold, running around in a safe outdoor space. Birlinn Jiarg was founded by multi-instrumentalist Beccy Hurst and performs the traditional Manx music she grew up with plus new compositions.
SCOTTISH OPERA PRESENTS THE ELIXIR OF LOVE- 4th October 2016
*** Note this event is in Thurso High School ***Donizetti's sunny comedy takes to the road, touring 17 smaller venues around Scotland. Dynamic young British director Oliver Platt and designer Oliver Townsend (Rodelinda 2013) take their inspiration from the world of P.G.

South African born singer songwriter Tim De Graaw began his career as a blues guitarist while harbouring a passion for songwriting. After leaving high school in England, he was accepted into the world renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston and after graduating, he seized an opportunity to move to Los Angeles to work as a professional musician.

Combining soulful melodies with incredibly catchy lyrics, Alex Wayt showcases his American-inspired songwriting with a joyous ode to living life to the full. With an impressive and seemingly endless list of shows under his belt, including tours in the USA and live performances at Murrayfield Stadium, this well-seasoned artist always promises to entertain.
RANT 
RANT is the meeting of four of Scotland's finest fiddle players who have joined forces to create a rich sound that's both vibrant and evocative of Scotland's exciting new musical landscape which brings classical and traditional worlds together. Using just their fiddles and performing acoustically, they weave a tapestry of melodies, textures, layers and sounds.
MAIRI CAMPBELL: PULSE (THE PLAY) and CONCERT
Straight from her acclaimed run at Edinburgh Fringe Mairi Campbell brings her show Pulse to Lyth Arts Centre. A homecoming in viola, voice, movement, animation and storytelling, Pulse is the story of award-winning musician Mairi Campbell's quest to heal cultural wounds.
THE BEVVY SISTERS AUGUST 13, 2016
Originally formed as an offshoot of all-star swing combo the Loveboat Big Band, the Bevvys simultaneously channel the heritage of such classic sister-acts as the Beverleys, the Andrews and the Boswells, while their own diverse backgrounds and collective song writing skills reinvent the female trio formula. "...highly seductive vocal harmonies with their trademark mix of sweetness and sass..." (Netrhythms magazine).
CHRISTOPHER GUILD - PIANO RECITAL AUGUST 19
An evening of Scottish music featuring composer Ronald Stevenson We welcome a return visit to Lyth by Christopher Guild, a young Scottish pianist, graduate of the Royal College of Music, London and champion of Scottish composer Ronald Stevenson. Ronald Stevenson is probably the last truly great pianist and composer of his generation.

Frank McElhenney is an artist and photographer who lives in Milngavie. He has an interest in nationhood, conflict and mortality.

Shine at Lyth Arts
Originally formed in 1998, Shine combines Corrina Hewat, Mary Macmaster and Alyth McCormack's distinctive voices with two electro-harps in hauntingly timeless and modern arrangements of traditional and contemporary music. A new book by the author of The Man Who Went To Farr - Ians interesting reflections on the Highland Clearances. Although previously an undocumented story of emigration from Scotland, many Caithness families were affected by this exodus which Ian has carefully researched both in Caithness and Patagonia.
