Joanne B Kaar a caithness based paper maker has sent the following request - "I have been appointed as the artist-in-residence for Durness/Cape Wrath area. It's a 3 month residency, and I will arrive in Durness on Friday 21st July.
On Friday the 21st July Joanne Kaar will be starting an artist-residency in Durness. During her 3 month stay, she willl be scribbling and sketching in her handmade paper books.

Following on from the sell-out success of La boh�me earlier this year, Scottish Opera will be back out on the road this autumn with a brand new production of Die Fledermaus. Taking in nineteen dates across the country, the tour will stop off in communities from Kirkwall to Newton Stewart with one performance in each location.
The next Professional Performance at the Mill will be at 8pm on Wednesday 2nd August 2006. An Evening of Brazilian Music & Latin Jazz With Peter Griggs, Guitarist (New York) Peter Griggs, a native of New York City, has established a reputation as a guitarist with a delicate touch on his instrument.
Linda Hutton the new Caithness Arts Co-ordinator sends this message regarding the What's On Guide and Newsletter As the new Arts Co-Ordinator for Caithness Arts I have taken over from Christine Russell and Katrina Gordon in the production of our What's On Guide and Newsletter. Currently preparing the bi-monthly What's On Guide for August/September, I would welcome news of any events you have planned across the County for inclusion.
Caithness Arts is arranging to hold its second Caithness Arts Week from 16th - 24th September 2006. The purpose of the Arts Week is to promote the Arts in Caithness in all its guises, from Art to Crafts, from Dance to Drama and plenty of music in-between ! We are keen to hear from both groups and individuals who would like to participate in our celebration of the enormous talent that lies within our community and demonstrate that the Arts has no entry barriers, enjoyed by all ages whether as a performer or a spectator.
Caithness Arts was pleased to announce a new development in their effort to support growth in the local arts infrastructure. Linda Hutton has been appointed as Caithness Arts Festival Co-ordinator.
Hi Folks, late again with this, but better late than never. Due to very poor attendances over the last few months, we find ourselves with a cash flow problem! This is the reason we do not have a guest artiste this month.

Edinburgh and Glasgow are to host performances from the Highland Regional Youth Orchestra on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th June, 2006. This 90-strong orchestra whose members come from Highland schools will perform Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture, Wagner's Die Meistersinger Overture and Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake Suite with selected operatic arias and percussion ensemble.

Students Sarah Glen and Rachel Rosie wrote their play 'Lifeless Revenge' with tuition from Ami Simpson, course leader and George Gunn, writing tutor. The production is set in modern day England and tells the story of two half sisters who set out on a tentative, suspicious journey for the truth surrounding their father's death.
The Caithness Music Festival has had another great week with lot of entries. As always the flow of children across the county from rural schools to Wick and thurso has kept the buses very busy.

I am preparing a book about the branch of this Caithness family who emigrated to Australia in 1825. Stewart Ryrie (born c.1776 at Bower, Caithness - died 1852 at "Arnprior," Braidwood, NSW) had been a Commissary in Wellington's army.

A joint effort in promoting the Highlands and Islands at the recent Cannes Film Festival proved a very productive investment for local businesses according to Trish Shorthouse of the Scottish Highlands and Islands Film Commission. Through a multi-agency approach, a Highland-base was established at Villa Belle - poque in the centre of Cannes from where the Scottish Highlands and Islands Film Commission, with support from Scottish Screen, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, VisitScotland, and Movie Site, promoted Highland and Islands film-friendly products to movers and shakers of the movie industry.
Thurso Scottish Country Dance Club season has come to an end and sent in some recent photos from dances. If you are interested in Scottish country dancing for social nights out for fun and keeping fit check out their web page for details.
Wick Player's chairman Drew MacLeod welcomed everyone to the open evening to celebrate the move into the premises at Moray Street after many years of working with only a small storage space. The new place provides workshops, rehearsal space, wardrobe space, small meeting rooms and lots of storage.

Support for Highland 2007 is growing within the business community as a further three organisations become official partners to the year Scotland celebrates Highland culture. The three, Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort, Highlands and Islands Airports Limited and First Scotrail are each contributing a substantial package of in-kind promotional support.

Organisations planning arts projects to mark Highland 2007, the year Scotland celebrates Highland culture, will from today (May 29) have access to the Highland 2007 Arts Capital Fund. The Scottish Arts Council, working in partnership with Highland 2007, has made �250,000 available in capital grants for Highland 2007 related arts projects in the Highlands and Islands.
The concert held in the Episcopal Church, Wick on Friday 26 May 2006, by Wick Choral. The concert was well attended and the audience were treated to items from Wick Choral, Caithness Handbell Ringers and a short Organ Recital by Margaret Widdowson.
