20th April 2014 Visionary guitar virtuoso Simon Thacker and the outstanding young Polish cellist Justyna Jablonska present Karmana (Sanskrit for "performing anything by means of magic"), combining elements from classical, jazz, Indian, Flamenco, Celtic, Balkan and other powerful musical systems mixed with Simon's unique experiences performing with musicians from around the world, resulting in an exhilarating meeting of musical styles, cultures and traditions, performed by two leading musicians.   Karmana mingles compositional ingenuity, captivating rhythmic invention and improvisational grace and fervour with the incredible sonic palette of guitar and cello.

Lyth Arts Centre Open 12 - 5 pm daily 1st July - 31st August 2013 Adults: £3 OAPs: £2 Children, Students, Unwaged: £1 Alistair Cook This project "McArthur's Store" was created by photographer, architect and artist Alistair Cook, who spent the summer of 2012 in a building on the quay at Dunbar used by fishermen while mending their creels.  He used wet plate collodion photography, a process concocted by Englishman Fred Scott Archer in 1851 to produce portraits of Dunbar men and their families.

Lyth Arts Centre Time: 17:30:00 Location: Lyth Arts Centre Length: 1 hour Interval: no Age suitability : 11+ The History of the Jazz Violin - illustrated talk by Chris Garrick The first name that comes to mind when we think about the jazz violin is Stephane Grappelli but he is just one of a line of innovators who form part of an evolving tradition that starts in Europe, moves to America and then ricochets back and forth across the Atlantic bringing the potential of this great orchestral and chamber instrument into the cadre of the jazz band.   Chris has a unique collection of recordings and introduces and plays excerpts which trace the path of this development ending with a memorable moment when the great Yehudi Menuhin, master of the classical violin and Grappelli, master of the jazz violin met and played together.
