Wick RBLS Pipe Band took advantage of the roadworks which caused the overnight closure of High Street outside the Pipe Band Hall to hold a practice prior to their visit to Germany. The practice provided an unexpected treat for a large group of German tourists staying overnight in the town.
'A Brief History of Scotland', is a look at one small nation�s past and present, who we are, how we got here and the struggles we have confronted on that journey. In particular, the continuing struggle we have had with our much larger and more powerful neighbour.

Thurso Players are in the final stages of rehearsal for their forthcoming Historical Production, 'The Death of Ivan the Terrible'. The play tells the story of the declining years of one of the greatest sadists in history - Ivan the Terrible - or Ivan Grozni as he was known to the Russians.
The winners of last Saturday's BBC1 programme "When Will I Be Famous", the Red Hot Chilli Pipers have agreed to play at a Massed Pipe Band event in Wick in September. The live TV show is hosted by Graham Norton and each week 8 different acts compete for a �10,000 first prize.
CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF GEORGE BAIN - THE `FATHER' OF MODERN CELTIC ART Groam House, the award-winning museum in Rosemarkie, is embarking on an ambitious exhibition project as part of Highland 2007, Scotland's year of Highland Culture. The project will focus on the outstanding work of Highland artist George Bain, who devoted much of his life to the study of the techniques of the ancient Celtic and Pictish artists.
This year sees a record entry for the Scottish Community Drama Association (SCDA) Highland Division with a total of six team entries from Halkirk, Wick and Thurso. Because of this interest the Festival will be held over two nights, Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th March.

Brodie continues to capture the hearts and minds of those who follow him through his first adventure, and we are now pleased to announce that his second adventure will be available in May.

Anatomy Acts is an exploration of the human body, inside and out. After its successful opening at the City Art Centre, Edinburgh, (5 stars - Scotsman, 'richest, most challenging historic exhibition...in recent years' - Herald) an adapted version of Anatomy Acts is touring to venues across Scotland, coming to the Highlands in January 2007.
January sees the return of the programme featuring Professional artists to Thurso's Mill Theatre which starts of in style with a celebration of the works of Robert Burns in song and verse. 'The Jolly Beggars and a' That' is an informal performance of a little known but superb musical play (Cantata) by Burns consisting of eight poems and eight songs.

The Highland Challenge was born in 1999 and has grown to become the premier inter-camera club photographic competition within Highland Region. Seven camera clubs currently participate in the Challenge - Orkney, Thurso, East Sutherland, Dingwall, Inverness, Cromarty and Nairn - each bringing a range of styles and speciality interests resulting in an entry portfolio brimming with an eclectic mix of images of an ever increasing standard.
To all our surprise the Wick Accordion & Fiddle Club has been nominated in this years Scots Traditional Music Awards for Club of the year. It would be great if you could put in a vote for the club as we have all done a lot to make it a good club for audiences and guest performers alike.
