St Fergus Gallery, Wick 1st November - 6 december 2014 High Life Highland would like to invite you and your friends to visit the new exhibition Hunting for Lost Crafts which will be with us at the St Fergus Gallery from 1st November -6th December 2014.   It is an exhibition of crafts and historical objects connected with the pursuits of hunting, shooting and fishing in the Highlands illustrating how historic techniques and materials have been transformed by contemporary makers - including fly-tying, taxidermy and trophy fish carving.

Wick born pianist James Ross has composed a piece based on the wonderful historic photographs taken around Wick over a period of 100 years by three generations of the Johnston family.   James who grew up admiring these photographs and has been thinking about this project for some years will be performing on piano with Carol Ella on viola at the Pulteney Parish church on 11th November to a background of projected images from the Johnston Collection ..

Former Thurso High School pupil and Magician Clive Grewcock (Golspie) has been short listed in the prestigious Scottish VOWS Awards which recognise companies within the wedding industry in Scotland who provide excellence in customer service.   Clive is 1 of 10 in the running under the Musician and Entertainer category with businesses nominated from across Scotland The winners in all the categories will be announced at the awards ceremony and dinner held at the Hilton hotel, Glasgow on the 24th of November which also marks 10 years of the VOWS Awards.

The Third Annual Portskerra International Storytelling Festival
Thursday October 30th - Sunday November 2nd 2014 [AT] 7.30pm (Sunday 2pm- 4pm) "Our big focus this year is on food, music and celebrating life - even in death!" 'Feed the Spirit' will happen each day of the festival - three people will gather at Melvich Village Hall to make and pass along the recipe and stories of their family favourites - one +50, - 50 & -20.  In the evening we will all share the food & their stories.

Ness River Public Art Programme receives £305,000 to create new public art pieces in Inverness
AN award of £305,000 has been made towards the creation of new public art pieces in Inverness as part of the area's Ness River Public Art Programme, River Connections.   Highland Council has commissioned four artists to create four new pieces of work along the riverbank to form unique spaces where people can quietly experience new ways of interacting with the landscape.

Scottish Ensemble strings spectacular for young Highland musicians
The Scottish Ensemble, the UK's only professional string orchestra, will be visiting the Highlands in October to host a special day of tuition for young musicians in Inverness.   Pupils of all ages and abilities who play stringed instruments have the chance to come and join the Scottish Ensemble musicians for a fun day of music making with the opportunity to ask questions and learn how to get more out of their music playing.
