"COMMITED TO ART"
An exhibition by members of the committee of the Society of Caithness Artists.   At Caithness Horizons, Old Town Hall, Thurso KW14 8JA www.caithnesshorizons.co.uk 2015 sees the Society celebrate 80 years of annual exhibitions in July/August of each year making it one of the oldest Societies of its kind in Scotland.

Celebrated writers to appear in Edinburgh free live literature event
JOIN acclaimed authors, Alan Bissett and Anne Donovan, along with poets, William Letford and Ryan Van Winkle, at Summerhall, Edinburgh, on 26 February 2015, for an evening of readings and reflection on how travel informs and inspires new writing.   The quartet will tell stories about their excursions to some of the most challenging parts of the world.

AFTER smashing all box office records for the event in 2014, the multi-award winning sound and light show, The Enchanted Forest, has announced it will extend run from 23 nights to 30 nights this year, opening up an additional 5,000 tickets to meet the increasing demand.   This year's show will launch to the public on October 2nd and will run every night until November 1st, now embracing both the Scottish and English half-term breaks during the course of the show.

Cafe Exhibitions Kimirea and John Glen Exhibition Monday 2nd March-Tuesday 31st March A display of work by local artists Kim Reade and John Glen will be on display throughout March.   Gallery Exhibitions Committed to Art Wednesday 4th March-Saturday 28th March "Committed to Art" showcases a selection of paintings and sculptures from committee members of the Society of Caithness Artists with the objective of proving that the committee has true empathy with all artists and particularly to those in the Caithness area.

Rush.dance kids have just competed at maximum street dance championships in Dundee, The competition was held in the Caird hall in Dundee.   Again this year the competition was massive with around 40 kids in each sections and it being our first run out for 2015.

Arts Investment Roadshows Promote Funding Opportunity
Highland Cultural Strategic Board (HCSB) has secured investment funding from Creative Scotland and The Highland Council to support the implementation of its cultural strategy ‘Highland Culture- take pride, take part'.   The ‘Growing Audiences' strand of the Strategy has been identified as a priority for support and HCSB are seeking proposals from arts organisation partners to achieve the ‘growing audiences’ objectives in the Highland Council area.

James Campbell from DEAS's (Skye Highland Dance Group) music video ‘Siuthad a Sheònaid' FilmG, MG ALBA's Gaelic Short Film Competition, has announced the shortlists for this year’s competition with budding filmmakers, community groups and school groups from the Highland region making the final cut.   This year’s FilmG theme, ‘Gealladh’ (Promise/Vow) inspired an array of new ideas and stories from filmmakers making it an exciting yet difficult job for the jury to pick out the best from this year’s entries.

The Caithness Junior Orchestra was created last September to give an opportunity to all young musicians aged 8 and over to make music together.   The orchestra now has 24 junior members from 10 different schools across Caithness and north Sutherland.

NorthLink Ferries' iconic Viking, Magnus, was brought to life today (Tuesday, 27 January) during celebrations at Shetland's world-renowned fire festival Up Helly Aa.   Acting as King Magnus the Good, 13-year-old Lewis Harkness led 15 members of the Junior Jarl Squad on board the MV Hjaltland followed by over 100 members of family and friends to enjoy a lunch hosted by NorthLink Ferries.
