Unique Concerts Festival celebrates youth music-making at its best

Over 300 young musicians from across the Highlands have been busy rehearsing for their unique showcase Concerts Festival which will feature the eight diverse groups working under the umbrella of Highland Young Musicians.   Held in Eden Court's Empire Theatre on Saturday 21st March, the festival will open with the energetic sound of t.he Highland Schools Wind Band, at 2.30pm.

Two shows to premiere at Brits off Broadway festival.   Two Scottish plays have been selected for New York premieres in this year's Brits off Broadway festival.  

English National Opera - La Traviata

National Theatre - Hamlet

Thurso Cinema 23rd March 7.00pm National Theatre Live's 2010 broadcast of Hamlet returns to cinemas as part of the National Theatre's 50th anniversary celebrations.   Following his celebrated performances at the National Theatre in Burnt by the Sun, The Revenger's Tragedy, Philistines and The Man of Mode, Rory Kinnear plays Hamlet in a dynamic new production of Shakespeare's complex and profound play about the human condition, directed by Nicholas Hytner.

Nomadic Boulders - Public Meeting On Art For John O'Groats

Following a competition to propose a permanent artwork as part of the redevelopment of john O'Groats, Scottish artists Dalziel & Scullion will present their idea.   A public meeting will be held where the artists will introduce their proposal - 'Nomadic Boulders', its inspiration and how the project might be realised.  

Royal Opera House - Swan Lake

Thurso Cinema Live from the Royal Opera House 7th March - 7.15pm Synopsis: Anthony Dowell's production of the greatest romantic ballet draws upon the opulence of 1890s Russia.   Swan Lake was Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's first score for ballet.
