Big Dance Tuition Programme Hits Caithness This Week
New Year kicks off with Body Currents exciting dance programme in Caithness The New Year is in full swing and to celebrate, the Body Currents dance programme, run by Eden Court, is launching their new range of exciting classes in Caithness this week for all ages and all abilities.   Caithness-based Dance Catalysts, Jill Kingdon and Juta Campbell, who run the outreach programme in the area and host each class, have compiled a programme full of diversity that would make Len Goodman proud.

North Highland Connections - 'Young Artistes' Programme
At this time of year there is no shortage of musical celebrations to attend! Now North Highland Connections is adding another one! On Thursday, 17th December, NHC will present another of its highly popular Young Artistes concerts.  This one, featuring a 16 year old Russian protégé pianist, Sasha Gracheva, will take place in the Opera House at Ackergill Tower, Caithness.

Highland Young Musicians Shine
The two days of musical events at Eden Court Theatre held over the weekend to commemorate 21 years of Highland Regional Music Groups was a great success and a fitting tribute to the musical talent and abilities of over 320 young people and their tutors.   21 years ago saw the formation of Highland Regional Youth Orchestra and whilst this group was the mainstay of provision until recently, there are now seven Regional Music Groups run by The Highland Council as an extension to the work of the Instrumental Tuition Service.

Hot on the heels of Halloween, the Highland Cello day held in Inverness yesterday (Tuesday 3 November) had a definitely ghostly feel about it.   Seventy young cellists and bassists from Highland primary and secondary schools gathered together for a day of workshops and master classes all building up to a performance at the end featuring music from the film Ghostbusters.

Two days of musical excellence to commemorate 21 years of Highland Regional Music Groups are now reaching the final stages of preparation.   Over the last 21 years, thousands of young musicians have trained and performed with the local authority's Regional Musical Groups and a showcase event on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness will provide a fitting tribute to the hard work of past tutors and pupils whilst celebrating new emerging talent.

BADBEA - Sent or Went ?

Brilliant Young Russian Pianist At Ackergill
North Highland Connections presents "Young Artistes Series" Sasha Gracheva, a 15 year old Russian pianist at Ackergill Tower Our final event of 2009 will be a piano recital at Ackergill Tower by the brilliant 16 year old Russian pianist, Sasha Gracheva, born in 1995 in Moscow.  From age of five she has been studying at Gnessin School of Music for Grifted Children in Russia with Elena Tolkunova, making her debut performances at six, both as a pianist and a composer.

Autumn Moonwatch Events
As part of Autumn MoonWatch week, Caithness Astronomy Group will be holding 3 free public events that will include a mix of observing sessions, illustrated talks, displays and interactive exhibits.  Weather permitting, the observing sessions will have telescopes available to allow attendees superbly detailed views of the mountains and craters on the Moon.

BBC To Record "Take The Floor" from Wick - Tickets FREE
BBC Scotland will be recording "Take the floor" with presenter Robbie Shepherd from Wick High School on Tuesday the 27th of October at 7pm.   The Addie Harper Jnr trio will be providing the music for dancing and this recording will have a special Caithness connection as the music performed will be music recorded by the Wick Scottish Dance Band in the 70s & 80s.

CREATIVE DANCE AND MOVEMENT CPD FOR TEACHERS
Inspiring Creativity - Dance in the Curriculum Children, young people and other residents in four Highland communities will soon have the opportunity to participate in an exciting new dance project called Body Currents.   Body Currents is a dynamic workshop and performance programme that will give people the opportunity to participate in dance activities over a nine month period including workshops and classes in and out of school time in the areas around Aviemore, Dornie, Lybster and Fort William.
