Ready for the new season! The gallery re-opens on Good Friday (2nd April) with a fresh new look and an impressive display of newly-created work from Highland Artists and some from further afield.  Our regular artists have clearly been working hard over the long cold winter and the results are tremendous - thanks and congratulations to them! On Saturday 27th March 2010 two new exhibitions opened at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery.   The centre-piece to the Art of Progress exhibition will be a 1833 painting by JMW Turner of the old stone bridge across the River Ness, a striking landmark of its day, while works created by silversmithing and weaving by award winning Scottish artist Mhairi Killen feature in the Absent Voices exhibition.

There is still room for participants of all ages in the brand new event called "Dance on For Life" taking place at the Inverness Leisure Centre on Sunday March 7th between 10am and 8pm.   This dance-a-thon style event encourages people of all ages to come along and try different styles of dance ranging from traditional Scottish Country dancing to new and inventive styles like Hip Hop, Break, Street and even Zumba.

A special guest will be at The Mackays Hotel, Wick on Sat 27th Feb, delivering a range of styles including Ballroom, Latin, Jive and many more! There will be a total of 4 classes throughout the day, starting at 11.30am.   Attend all or just one or two...its up to you! For all abilities! And once you have got the feetwork in motion, put them into action, dress up and dance the night away at our evening event, with music and beverages (alcoholic or non!) Starting time: 7.30pm! Highland Museum is finalist for national award
The Highland Folk Museum in Newtonmore is one of 6 museums in Great Britain chosen by the public to reach the final stages of the Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award 2010.   Highland Folk Museum, run by The Highland Council's Education, Culture and Sport Service is the only Scottish museum listed in the finalists which include: Beningbrough Hall and Gardens, York; Great North Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne, Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, Coventry; The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent; and St Nicholas Priory, Exeter.

An exhibition of stereoscopic images by artist Calum Colvin entitled 'Natural Magic' is currently on show at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery before going on display in Thurso, Wick and Kingussie.   The exhibition is inspired by Scotsman David Brewster (1781 - 1868) who pioneered 3-D in Victorian Britain and is an open-ended exploration of a time of great change in science, religion, nationality and our understanding of the visual world.
