Mixing Monsters, Science and Art at Inverness College UHI
Art students from Inverness College UHI are taking part in the forthcoming Monster Science Festival, exhibiting artwork inspired by science in locations throughout Inverness.   Students on the Introduction to Art course at Inverness College UHI have fused science and art together, and produced a variety of art work inspired by subjects such as genetics and evolution, The first exhibition, which is a series of sculptures created by the students to represent their feelings on genetic engineering and mutation and is entitled Monsters, Mutants and Mayhem, will launch on Thursday 3 June and will run until Monday 28 June at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness.

Music Group Competition Hots Up
Music group competition hots up Saturday (29 May 2010) will see hundreds of talented young musicians descend on Millburn Academy in Inverness as they vie for coveted places in one of the eight Regional Music Groups run as an extension to the instrumental Tuition Service of Highland Council.   Membership for all the groups is by audition and invitation after this annual Audition Day and members are drawn from all areas of Highland.

Caithness Music Festival On Song!
Reporter - Noel Donaldson CAITHNESS Music Festival celebrates its 56th birthday next month and is very much on song.   There are 242 classes reflecting a wide range of vocal solos, verse speaking, choirs and instrumental performances in the festival, which opens on June 7 and runs for five days.

Launch of new music initiative for Highland schools
The Highland Council is the first Local Authority to introduce the Active Learning through Music programme to all its schools.   The programme, written by National Youth Choir of Scotland, was trialled in four Highland schools last year where it was a hit with both staff and pupils.

THE SCOTTISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
NHC is delighted to present this return visit of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra to Thurso,working with Thurso Live Music Association.   The Orchestra has enjoyed an enormously successful year- winning BBC Music Magazine CD of the Year and a Classical BRIT Award for its recording of Mozart's last four symphonies with Sir Charles Mackerras; making the first multi-date tour of India by a western orchestra; and enjoying our first Season concerts with new Principal Conductor - a brilliant young Londoner, Robin Ticciati.

A growing series of CD's will shortly be available to borrow from libraries in both Wick and Thurso.   The project - MusicMemory Store - will feature people with local connections and raise the profile of the value of traditional and Gaelic music within the community and its relationship to the National Mòd 2010 which is being hosted in Caithness for the very first time from 8th to 16th October.

Creative Scotland CEO announces £500k boost for Highland arts programme
Andrew Dixon, Chief Executive Designate of Creative Scotland, has today announced that music, dance, literature and drama are among six creative disciplines to benefit from £500,000 funding this year for their development in the Highlands.  Crafts and visual arts are also in line for a share of the support recommended by the Highland Cultural Strategic Board.
