International Appeal of Scottish Ganseys
An international panel of judges has just been announced to decide winning entries in the Moray Firth Gansey Project design competition.   American Beth Brown-Reinsel, author of the book 'Knitting Ganseys', Juliet Bernard, editor of the Knitter magazine and the international knitwear designer Di Gilpin will choose the winning designs.

Young Musicians Busy Tuning Up For Showcase Concerts
300 young musicians from the eight Highland Regional Music Groups are busy rehearsing for a special showcase event featuring both afternoon and evening concerts in Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on Sunday 20 March.   The Highland Schools Wind Band will open the afternoon concert at 2.30pm with a varied programme that will allow the young performers to show their musical skills.

Scottish Government Grant Aid For Business In Arts
Scottish Government to further incentivise business sponsorship of the arts through Arts & Business Scotland Arts & Business Scotland has been awarded £300,000 by the Scottish Government to encourage further private sector investment in the arts in Scotland, the Culture Minister has confirmed today.   Fiona Hyslop made the announcement at the Arts & Business New Arts Sponsorship Grants Reception.

Fiddle & Accordion Champions To Give Workshops In Inverness
Fife based couple Claire Telford and Wayne Robertson will be visiting Inverness on Thursday 7 April at the invitation of The Highland Council Traditional Music Classes Co-ordinator, Margo MacLennan, to give a short evening series of mentoring workshops in both fiddle and accordion for Highland students of these traditional music instruments.   Aberdonian Claire Telford was a Mod Gold Medal winner in 1994 and a Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship medal winner in 1997, as well as achieving great success in many traditional fiddle festivals across the North-East.

Warriors Descend On Inverness Museum & Art Gallery
Film costumes from Hollywood blockbusters like Gladiator, King Arthur and the Last Samurai are coming to Inverness Museum and Art Gallery this month as part of the Way of the Warrior exhibition.   Way of the Warrior is a visually stunning exhibition of movie arms and armour used in epic historical blockbuster movies, organised by Pop Up Exhibitions.

Catherine Redgate (23), a fourth-year Painting student at Robert Gordon University's Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen, has been putting the finishing touches to her work ahead of staging a pre-degree show exhibition in Edinburgh later this month.   Catherine, from Castletown near Thurso, and 26 of her classmates are preparing to showcase their final-year work at an exhibition devoted solely to the art school, entitled 'Gray's Contemporaries', at 'art's complex' in the Scottish capital from 19 - 26 February 2011.

Community Drama Festival Coming To Caithness
Fifty four local actors are currently in rehearsal for Caithness's five entries into the Scottish Community Drama Association annual One Act Play Festival.   The plays will be publicly adjudicated over the SCDA festival's two nights on 25th and 26th Feb, performing at Thurso High School 7pm What makes this year's festival unique is that each of the two nights performances will feature both youth and adult entries, providing audiences with a variety of entertainment, and insight from adjudicator, Ron Nichol.

Highland Pupils Open The Door On Ruscha's Room
A group of pupils from five Highland secondary schools have created an exhibition which is their interpretation of the works of American artist Ed Ruscha.   'Ruscha's Room - Seòmraichean Luchd-ealain' is currently at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery until 12 February 2011.

Artists Rooms At Swanson Gallery, Thurso
Swanson Gallery, Thurso exhibits work of acclaimed American artist Ed Ruscha - Major works from Four Decades ARTIST ROOMS on Tour with the Art Fund supported by The Scottish Government Major drawings by Ed Ruscha, one of the most influential and pioneering American artists of the past half-century, will be opening at the Swanson Gallery, Thurso Library on Saturday 15th January until 26th February as part of ARTIST ROOMS, the important new public collection of international post-war and contemporary art that independent charity the Art Fund is helping to tour across the UK.   ARTIST ROOMS is jointly owned and managed by National Galleries of Scotland and Tate on behalf of the nation.

Highland Art Residential for s.4 - s.6 pupils
Pupils from every Secondary School in Highland are invited to apply to take part in an intensive art residential opportunity at Badaguish Outdoor Centre, Aviemore from Monday 15th - Thrusday 17th February 2011.   Last few places left - book now to avoid disappointment! The residential is open to everyone from s4 - s6 and the aim is to provide the opportunity for all pupils involved to gain to experience working with a range of art materials and techniques and to meet other young people from across the Highlands that have a shared interest in art.

Caithness Horizons has become the proud owner of the set of three quilts commissioned to mark the Royal National Mòd 2010.   The Kross Kounty Quilters', a group of seven quilters based in Caithness, created the original design as a backdrop to capturing a pictorial representation of the Caithness land and seascape to celebrate the Mòd coming to Caithness.

Exhibition Spreads The Word at Highland Archive & Registration Centre
An exhibition to mark the 450th anniversary of the Reformation in Scotland goes on show this week at the Highland Archive and Registration Centre, Inverness The exhibition titled "Spreading the Word" has been organised by the National Archives of Scotland in partnership with the Church of Scotland and some of Scotland's local archives including the Highland Archive Service.   This mobile display highlights fascinating records which are one of Scotland's most important historical legacies.

St Andrews Weekend Celebrations Across Highland
St Andrew's Weekend to be celebrated in traditional style across the Highlands Traditional Family Cèilidhs as part of Scotland's Winter Festivals The 2010 St Andrew's Weekend will be celebrated across the Highlands when Scotland's Winter Festivals teams up with The Highland Council and the hugely successful Fèis movement to organise Family Cèilidhs, making sure that the best of traditional music and song will be enjoyed alongside local food and drink.   Young people from local Fèis Cèilidh Trails will appear with some very special guests in village halls in five different locations.
