Early bird ticket opportunities for adults are still available for this year's Blas festival, but only until the last day of July, when the offer closes.   The "reel deal" tickets at much reduced prices will remain available to July 31 when the prices will revert to the full rate.

Well-known Musicians Train The Next Generation
Well-known Highland musicians have been training up young people from local Fèisean in advance of them taking to the road for 100 events across the Highlands and in Argyll over next few weeks.   This summer participants of the Fèis movement will once again take part in Fèisean nan Gàidheal's Cèilidhean air Chuairt - Slighean Ùra (Cèilidh Trail's - New Routes) project funded by HIE, The Highland Council, Creative Scotland, Highland LEADER and Argyll LEADER.

TODAY (Wednesday 6 July) 15 members of The Highland Council's Regional ceilidh band 'snas left from Inverness Airport to embark on the first part of their journey to the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in North Wales.   The group of talented musicians and are travelling via Manchester where they have a special 'busking' licence for the city centre.

Floral themed exhibitions to open in Inverness gallery (04/07/11)
An exhibition entitled 'More Than Floral' opens at Inverness Museum & Art Gallery this weekend.   A mixed media exhibition exploring themes of nature through a broad range of objects, More Than Floral looks closely at the inspiration the natural world provides for many makers, artists and photographers.

An award winning mural designed by the P7 pupils of Pennyland Primary School promoting the recycling message has been used to create an eye-catching banner which will be on display at the Council's Recycling Centre in Thurso.   The Recycling Mural competition, run by the Council's Waste Aware Team, proved to be very popular with 55 primary schools submitting a total of 119 entries, with a wide array of styles and ideas.

During a ceremony held earlier today (Tuesday 14 June 2011) in Inverness Town House the 2011 Neil Gunn Writing Competition prize winners were presented with their awards.   The 11th competition, run by The Highland Council's Education, Culture and Sport Service in partnership with the Neil Gunn Trust, and sponsored by David Sutherland of Tulloch Homes, has run every two years since 1988.

Pictish Silver Comes Back To The Highlands
Two Important historical treasures are coming north this month for display at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery from the National Museums Scotland.   Well-known locally and in the collections at the National Museums Scotland, the Pictish silver chain found at Torvean and the Croy Hoard will go on display alongside the museum's collection of Pictish stones until the end of October.

John O'Groats Transformation Arts Weekend 2nd and 3rd July
The iconic John O'Groats hotel is set to have one final moment of glory before work begins to redevelop it as part of the regeneration of the well known tourist location later this year.   It will form the centre piece of 'Transform', a weekend of community celebration at the start of July at John O'Groats featuring street art, video projections, ceramic firings, story-telling, and music.

Wick Band In Get Noticed Competition
Seven young bands from all over Highland will converge on Inverness's Spectrum Centre on Saturday 18th June as they compete to win this year's 'Get Noticed' competition.   This new 'battle of the bands' is being run by The Highland Council's Music Development Officer in collaboration with Thunder In The Glen and Stashsound recording studio.

Ann Henderson (1921-1976) A Retrospective 18th June - 4th September 2011 The Gallery - Caithness Horizons A retrospective of the work of Ann Henderson will be on show in Thurso, the birthplace of this inspirational artist.   Ann Henderson was a successful sculptor, the only woman to graduate in her year from the School of Sculpture at the Edinburgh College of Art in 1945.
