Craft and Technology Residencies 2013
Are you a maker open to exploring ways in which craft skills and knowledge can contribute to science and technology and vice versa? Watershed is offering three maker residencies to research new projects at the intersection of craft, technology and culture.  Delivered in collaboration with the Crafts Council, i-DAT, the Autonomatic research group at University College Falmouth, and supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, this is a unique opportunity to explore process and practice, develop experimental works and make new connections.

Arts and creativity for early years - would a network help?
What creative activity for early years children happens in your community? Would you like more access to the arts and creativity for early years? Would an Early Years Creative Network help? Starcatchers is carrying out research into the potential for an Early Years Creative Network for Scotland.   They want to hear the views from people across Scotland - from parents, childcare professionals, artists, arts organisations, local authorities and other local and national organisations working with the Early Years in Scotland.

Wave North Pop up Art Exhibition
25th October - 3rd November 2012 The Wave North festival is running again in October this year to coincide with the UK Pro Tour Surfing competition held at Thurso East.   This year as well as the surfing there will be a temporary skate park at Thurso Harbour providing workshops and demonstrations.

Kenny Hunter Major New Work - Helmsdale
Exhibition: 6 October - 14 November Private view with the artist: 12 October 7-9pm Timespan Gallery │ Free Opening Times: Monday -Saturday 10-5 │ Sunday 12-5 From October 29: Saturday and Sunday 11-5 │ Tuesday 2-4 Scottish artist Kenny Hunter will launch his largest and most challenging public art work yet in a remote location in the far North West Highlands on Saturday 13th October.   Timespan will show an accompanying exhibition documenting the development of this project and other artworks from 6 October to 14 November, with an exhibition evening with the artist on the 12th October.

Culture and External Affairs Budget
Commenting on the Scottish Government's proposed spending plans for 2013-14, Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs Fiona Hyslop said: "In line with the Scottish Government's commitment to support economic recovery and create more jobs, capital investment for the Culture and External Affairs portfolio is increasing to £17 million next financial year.  This is almost doubling what we set out in the 2011 Spending Review.

Big Sky, The Highland Council and Fèis Rois have come together to offer an exciting opportunity for secondary pupils in Highland to work with professional composer and pianist, James Ross to rehearse and perform a production of the show, The Boy and the Bunnet.   This tale which was written by James Robertson with music composed by James Ross takes the audience on a magical journey through storytelling, music and animation.

Doors Open Day Heads Northwards
From state-of-the-art modern buildings to ancient churches and nuclear bunkers, Saturday 1st September successfully kicked of this year's National Doors Open Days programme of events, with a wide range of buildings in Inverness throwing open their doors to visitors.   And now the event is heading northwards to Ross-shire, Sutherland and Caithness.

Arts Match Funding Extended
A hugely successful scheme to encourage business sponsorship of the arts is being extended, the Culture Secretary has announced.   An additional £150,000 has been allocated to the New Arts Sponsorship Grants scheme by Fiona Hyslop, bringing the total level of Government support this financial year to £450,000.

Land Ownership New Theme For Theatre Production
A theatre production telling the story of community land buyouts in the Highlands and Islands is to tour Scotland.   The production 'We Have Won the Land' will be launched in September at Balallan School, Isle of Lewis, at a four-day conference being organised by the Islands Book Trust.

Popular Culture - Increased Interest
A rise in the percentage of adults in Scotland participating in cultural activities and attending cultural events has been welcomed by the Culture Secretary.   Following the publication of culture statistics from the Scottish Household Survey 2011, Fiona Hyslop said: "Scotland's rich and diverse cultural life brings real benefits to individuals and communities the length and breadth of Scotland.
